New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.

The crowds have been dreadful so far, was watching some track and field and there was next to no one even for the night session. That isn't looked upon kindly when going for your Olympic bid.

Hmm, I agree. I don't think it's an issue of being able to hold the olympics in India. I think India could easily step it up. I think that this media scrutiny is doing a great deal. It is making us look at administrative forces, safety, durability, hygiene, presentation and so much more from much closer quarters. I think that it will go a long way towards ensuring that a debacle of a similar level doesn't occur again because India will be aware that they cannot afford to slip up twice, especially when that second time is the Olympics (hypothetically).

However, the bigger issue, and I feel the one that has been undermined amidst all the controversy is that nobody really cares about athletics in India. None of this would have ever happened if it was the Cricket World Cup (even if they did build some sort of athletes village instead of housing them in hotels). Athletics gets some media coverage if an Indian wins a medal, but it doesn't really capture the attention of many. The Olympics is a huge event and while I think that it would and should fill up for an event as big as that, I don't think it would be worth the risk as it puts the Olympics, a prestigious event, in a bad light.

Wow just saw that video of that kiwi. It would be one thing if he was making proper jokes but this guy was just making childish jokes about her name. It was sheer racist humor, anyone who found that funny must have a very low IQ.

Even his co-anchors were looking embarrassed. Really sad if that is what flies as humor in NZ.

He's done lots of stupid things in the past, they're bound to be up on youtube as well.

He's just incredibly immature.

For god's sake India, if you want more major comps, go and support the events! There's been basically no crowds. There was more crowds at the youth olympics!

Wow, that guy was incredibly moronic. He's one of those people who laughs at his own jokes and is completely oblivious to his own stupidity.

Back on topic of the pool stuff, according to Ian Thorpe the chlorine pretty much kills any foul elements. As Sid said, this is probably a case of food poisoning. That would explain why one team has been affected by it--they probably eat together.

I don't think India is seriously going to be making an Olympic bid any time soon and I don't think we should, either. Our system of governance is too broken to make sure an event like that happens smoothly and it's not going to help develop any sports in our country (like China) because we are not communists.

IMO, we should stick to cricket and look at expanding in other sports on a case by case basis rather than through the Olympics. For example, the NBA is holding seasonal tournaments in India to develop basketball and I hope FIFA is doing similar things. If anything, this event should quell the derisive remarks about India being such a huge country and having such few Olympic medals to show for it--it's obvious that no one really cares.

I'm happy this tournament is failing so India doesn't win Olympic rights. India has been embarrassed enough and this will go down as one of the crappiest Commonwealth's ever. Don't turn on your TV's to watch this.

Nothing wrong with how the tournament is been organised, turned out great its just that the city isn't supporting the games by going to them. Guess traffic is a major factor, rather stay at home and watch it on tv.

wtf, why shouldn't i watch these games? these games are just as good as the previous ones... just that crowd attendance is low doesn't mean the facilities aren't great.

What's going on with the pool water? Everyone seems to be getting 'Delhi-Belly' because of it.

I just read Kalmadi (the head of the organisation of the Commonwealth Games) made a mistake of who he thought would attend the opening ceremony.

You can guess it yourself by making this quiz.

We finally got our first gold. Took us long enough really. But that crash in the team sprint looked quite nasty

Yay, our first gold.
We should get our second tomorrow in the woman's shot put.

The cycling's been the only stuff I've actually fully followed, so now that that's pretty much over I'll pretty much tune out.
I'm just not getting into the track and field, the big names aren't there, and the empty stadium just puts me off watching it.
I play hockey, but I can't get into watching that either, I'll probably watch only watch the sevens fully from here on in.

Swimming is just a joke, how many medals do they want?
Apparently at the next Olympics they're taking away some cycling events, while I assume they're leaving all the ****en swimming ████. 50, 100, 200, 400, 1500, times that by four, add in relays, medleys, syncro, diving, what a ****en joke.
