New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.

I believe that is 15 out of 16 golds for the Aussies in cycling, took out both the road races today. Cavendish got worked over big time, don't remember if he had teammates but they definitely didn't help him. Brilliant team tactics by the Aussies pretty good by the Kiwis too.

Kalmadi thanks Delhiites and others for 'successful' CWG - The Economic Times

I can't be reading this right!

Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Sunday thanked Delhiites and "unseen" people for their contribution in making various events successful during the grand sporting event and said "excellent" results will help spread the message of Olympics here

With the sword hanging on their heads, I think he and his stooges have lost all mental balance. Just wait for the Games to finish, and we'll throw these morons out for good. Enough damage has been done already because of them.

Here's another hilarious slip of tongue by one of Kalmadi's aides:

?Monkey? puts Bhanot in a spot of bother - Hindustan Times

Asked about reports of Roland Schoeman remarks that ‘it was unacceptable to be at a professional event like this and have people going on like monkeys’, a bemused Bhanot at first responded, “There are monkeys in that area and we are trying to get them out of there.”

:facepalm

NZ got one gold, and Malasyia got at least one gold, so at least two were dropped by Aussie.

In the women's race you guys just sat in the pack the whole time, I watched pretty much the whole thing, and not once did Aussie try to do anything.

IMO NZ were the only team that went into both races with a tactic that wasn't, "just sit in the pack, chase down any breaks, and play for a sprint".

In the women's race I could of sworn every team's tactics were briefed by the same person, except NZ, so I wouldn't really call it brilliant tactics, as everyone bar NZ had the same tactics.

I love it how the NZ commentator kept on saying India had potential in seven's, when they got slapped by 50 odd in their opening two matches.

They done absolutely nothing right, and I'm pretty sure the commentator had been told before hand just to complement them.

If I've worked it out right, our quarter will be against Wales.

They're on now, pretty much all of the pool matches are one way traffic, so I'm more waiting for the playoff action.

And I'm not going to watch that NZ v BNG ODI crap. :(

King_Cricket, read it carefully. He was congratulating all the unseen people, aka all the people that didn't show up to watch anything.

As much as I'd like to believe otherwise, nothing is going to arise out of this. Kalmadi may get the axe in the short-term but he's probably going to be back with some other political portfolio a few months from now.

The reason the Olympics will never work is because our system of governance is stupid. All our ministries are handed out depending on perceived political clout and votes. The head of the sports ministry is not someone who is interested in sports--it's usually someone who wasn't powerful enough to get some other portfolio but was on the winning party's campaign. How do you expect them to have any dedication to their job?

The only positive of doing something like this is that it forces the government to put money into developing infrastructure. That said, I'd like to see the state of all the new resources that were built for this event in just 2 years time.

One thing good out of CWG is that Indian sportsman got exposure and limelight which they hardly get. As I said, we just need to find feet in swimming and athletics to be able to have at least 10 Gold in next Olympics.

How idiotic of Vijender Singh. The guy has become Yuvi of Boxing. :facepalm

It was team tactics which won Aussies gold. They let Kiwis spend all energy trying to set pace and break away and made it count when it mattered. I fail to see why you are so pissed off. The race is won by player crossing the line first and if Kiwi girls were so fast then they should have built seizable lead so that no one could have caught them.

The Kiwis were trying to wear the Australians down because they would have to chase them down whenever they made a break. This would leave the Kiwi sprinters who had stayed back to take the lead at the end because they wouldn't be as tired.

The good old doping test failures were left and here it is.

Commonwealth Games: Damola Osayemi fails drugs test

Commonwealth Games women's 100m gold medal winner Damola Osayemi has failed a drugs test.

She has been provisionally suspended until the result of her B sample is received on Wednesday.

The Nigerian, 24, was named champion on Thursday after Australia's Sally Pearson was controversially disqualified for a false start.

England's Katherine Endacott finished fourth but could now be handed silver if the decision is upheld.

The sprinter showed traces of a banned stimulant called methylhexaneamine, which has only recently been added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list.

Scotland dismiss claims village photos were not genuine

A leading Scotland official has rejected claims that photos detailing the shocking conditions inside the athletes' village at the Commonwealth Games were not authentic.

Disturbing images of dirty bathrooms and unfinished building work were broadcast around the world by BBC Sport only a few days before competitors were due to start arriving in Delhi.

Organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi dismissed the relevance of the photos, insisting they were of servants' quarters, not areas that were used by competitors.

However, Michael Kavanagh, chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, told BBC Sport: "There is no staff accommodation in the village. It simply doesn't exist.

"That accommodation was intended for athletes and is actually currently being used by athletes as it was cleaned up eventually."

Kalmadi rounded off his defence of Delhi 2010 with the assertion that Indian organisers have set a standard that Glasgow may struggle to match when the Scottish city hosts the next edition in 2014.

"The scale we have had in India, it may be hard for them to repeat," said a belligerent Kalmadi.

My point is that EVERYONE EXCEPT NEW ZEALAND had the same tactics.
So it wasn't tactics that won them the gold, it's because they have the best cyclists in the commonwealth (by quite a long way)

I've watched pretty much every cycling event these games, so I'm not pissed off that they won, as they've won every cycling event bar two/three.

Samoa are above us in the medal table. Embarrassing !

We do have like 20 silvers though :facepalm

We should get at least one (hopefully two/three) more gold in netball, woman's hockey, sevens, 1500m.
I think we still have some medal chances left in squash, badminton, bowls, table tennis, but I don't think any of them will be gold.
And we should get a bronze in the men's hockey, and maybe another silver/bronze in the road cycling time trial.

I wouldn't bet against us getting silver in all of those events though :p

I'm feeling a little worried about the 7's though, we've had some really poor patches in some games. We should win but I'm not as confident as I was.
