New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.

The Telegraph - Calcutta (Kolkata) | Sports | Potshots turn into praise

Complaints about leaking roofs, stinking toilets and dirty rooms finally took a backseat on Monday when the Commonwealth Games Village witnessed a turnaround in perceptions, with the athletes and officials praising the facilities for the first time.

According to Organising Committee (OC) sources, around 550 athletes and officials arrived on Monday. While the largest contingent was from South Africa, with 113 athletes and officials, they were followed by Scotland (77), England (61), Australia (59) and Canada (30).

Officials and athletes from New Zealand, Wales, Namibia, Jamaica, Botswana, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Kiribati and others have also arrived and have checked into the Games Village, the OC sources added.

?The rooms are the best ever, provided in any other Commonwealth Games. The food is also great.

I have doubts with regards to the veracity of this report, but even if I take it as an exaggeration of the reality, it does seem that India's last ditch efforts to clear the mess and get things back on track have yielded positive results. The problem with our authorities is that they are always doing things at the eleventh hour. If only we showed the same willingness as we are showing now to ensure a safe and sound CWG in the seven years time that we got to prepare, we would have in all seriousness delivered the best CWG ever. *sigh*

Yet again corruption is ruining both Indian and Pakistan. When our countries will throw away these bloody corrupt people?
It is real sad with what all we are listening hope some higher officials try to solve all this matter.

you are right, Pakistan and India need to change their so called "leadership".

When our countries will throw away these bloody corrupt people?

Never if the reaction of ours remains like that.
I agree that Politicians/top level officers are corrupted to a very large extent. But I would say that they aren't the source of corruption.
The source of corruption starts from our own families, our schools and our surroundings.

The mentality of people, teens - to use shortcuts to do their work is what makes way for corruption in the future.
Just think, students cheat in exams - it is corruption, since corruption means using dishonest means to achieve something.
We copy the homework from our friends - that's corruption.

That is where corruption gets its birth from. So, simply driving the politicians out of the country won't do a thing if the future citizens/politicians are the origin of corruption.

(For non-asian members - What I wrote may seem very weird to you guys but that's true in the subcontinent countries.)

this is totally the wastage of money.the responsible for the flop CWG 2010 is nothing but corruption. Due to long governmental process at the beginning & last of the process every thing is alright but at the middle of the process the corruption prevails mostly.(especially in India)

So much money has been spent and nothing has occured in CWG!:doh Except for the fact that they are improving streetlife animals condition by giving them places where athletes should be staying. lol.

Varun, people all over the world cheat in school. That's not the source of corruption.

The reason we have corruption in India is because of scarcity of resources.

Is it just that though? I think it has a lot more to do with a lack of accountability. Over here our politicians are just as corrupt but if their misdeeds get leaked to the media or found out, its the end of their careers.

Well, I'd say that was the origin of corruption. There are of course a lot of things feeding it now, including the attitude of the general population. Accountability is definitely one thing. A politician whose name has been smeared just stays out of the limelight for a couple of years and then comes back.

Another thing that is important is the general education level of politicians. Many politicians are in the game simply because of family. As poor as the Indian education system is to begin with, some of our politicians haven't even managed to get through that. I feel like we would make a massive leap in progress if we just required that every politician had at least a college degree (of course, you'd end up with people just buying college degrees).

What Media and People Have To See

ok so what? That is at the very least expected of India to deliver.

Kalmadi did confess 1 month back that a Building in the Village had 10 unhygienic rooms.

Now Media showed that 10 but why not these all pictures?

Because despite spending billions and billions they've made a complete hash of the athletes village which is actually dangerous to those staying there.

No it is not.. It's actually a nice place.

It's just 10 bad rooms..

10 bad rooms and this all.. Although I must agree some incomplete work

But there is a lot to cheer for and we must appreciate that.
