New Zealand in Australia Nov-Dec 2008 Feb 2009

Two interesting pieces. The big one, Symonds caught drunk again with his International career hanging in the balance.
The international career of cricketer Andrew Symonds could hang in the balance after the all-rounder was allegedly involved in a physical altercation at a Brisbane pub.

Symonds was understood to have been drinking at the popular Normanby Hotel in Red Hill with several members of the Australian rugby league team when the fight commenced.

And the thing I pointed out earlier could be put into use with Clark possibly dropped for Siddle because of his ineffectiveness on flat tracks.

Ponting fined for slow over-rates for the second time in a row. Why the hell didn't he get a match ban? So unfair. The ICC need to crack down.

I think captains only get banned if they get 6 overs behind the over-rate , or something like that. I don't think they consider previous offences comes to over-rate trouble. I am not 100% sure about it though...

Krezja will play the next game so hopefully we can get this over-rate thing sorted out.

Its hard to believe that Symonds is stupid enough to get into trouble after everything he has gone through. I just hope he is not guilty or his career could be over.

lmfao at Symonds. What an idiot. Good bye Roy, I guess we will be seeing a lot more of Watson from now on!

Ponting was docked 30% of his match fee of A$12,750, double the punishment of his team-mates, for being three behind during the 149-run victory over New Zealand that ended on the fourth morning.

Pontings' problem of over rates is just not getting over, started in India, and still going on,the team has been fined for the second game in a row by the match referee.

Clark took 3 of the 5 wickets our bowlers took against England in the Ashes 2 years back in the first innings, then 1/22 off 13 in the second. He didn't manage to take a wicket against India in either innings last year. He kept it tight though. Lee and Johnson had success though so maybe the "hit the deck" bowlers is what we might need if the Adelaide pitch behaves the same as the last couple of years.

The year Aussie sportsmen are having with the drink I thought we had seen the last of it but even in Nov we are still getting it. Will be interesting seeing what CA do with Roy over this, if hes found guilty of it hes definitely gone. But with the negative comes the positive with letting Watson have more of a chance to cement the number 6 spot.

From the article I posted

Usually the flattest pitch in Australia, Adelaide is by far Clark's worst venue.

He has just four wickets there at an average of 56.5 in two Tests and last summer failed to take a wicket there against India in 43 overs.

Does show how ineffective Clark is on the flatter tracks. Keeps it tight but I think the selectors are after wicket taking bowlers. I don't mind it as long as we are picking bowlers suited to the track and not batting all rounders. The strange thing is why Hilfy wasn't picked for the Gabba where he would have been perfect.

Cricket Australia is investigating an incident surrounding Andrew Symonds after he was allegedly involved in a physical confrontation in a Brisbane hotel on Sunday night. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the altercation between Symonds and a member of the public occurred when the allrounder was drinking with players in the Australian rugby league side following the cricket team's 149-run win in the first Test against New Zealand at the Gabba.

What is happening? Now some new punishment/ban....Possibly before 2nd test,or ban might apply vs SA series...

And here i thought Andrew was apologetic for his behaviour. Immature and brainless. Reminds me of Vinod Kambli.

It sounds bit like a media beat up though....

The Normanby Hotel has denied that Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds was at fault in any way during an alleged incident he was involved in with a member of the public at the establishment on the weekend.

According to a representative from the hotel, Symonds was no more than a victim of the antics of an overzealous fan.The patron in question apparently tried to hug and take a photo of Symonds with both attempts being declined by the 33-year-old Queenslander.

Following Symonds' refusal, the patron reportedly continued to harass the recently recalled Test all-rounder before being asked to leave by security for what it deemed to be inappropriate behaviour.

Symonds denies that he provoked the situation.

Symonds said he was sharing some drinks with other players and "did not in any way provoke this situation".

"A member of the public acted unreasonably towards me while I was with friends at which time I took steps to remove myself from the situation," Symonds said in a statement. "The member of the public was subsequently removed from the premises as a result of his actions."

Let's face it, he's an endangered species, now. Someone shows up in a pub, makes a scene and gets thrown out, but the papers don't report that guy's name. It doesn't matter whether he did the right thing, he's going to have to bear the brunt. It's like the inquisition and what is the most distasteful about it all is the viciousness that appears to be coming from home, not from afar.

Before you say stuff like that wait to hear what really happened. The press has a good way to make things like this look bad and like Symond's fault. From what i've read Symonds did absolutely nothing to the guy and left immediately.

I'd say he's probably not in the wrong at all. I hope he's dropped for our sake though because his fielding is annoying.

Even if Symonds were to get the boot by CA, he would then simply camp out in Hyderabad and play IPL for rest of his cricketing career. Not much damage financially really!

New Zealand's got a new coach. Well he takes over after the Adelaide test. It's the Northern Districts coach.

Yeah it seems like Symonds did the right thing with his treatment of the drunk fan. Full credit to him for not hitting back. But I guess the more concerning thing was that he was in a 'risky' venue and, by reports this morning, stayed to drink for another couple of hours after the 'incident' with the autograph seeker.

I'd be surprised if he gets his contract torn up though. For starters, some guys from Cricket Australia have already defended his actions publicly. And when his colleagues have taken a public position already, it would be a major turnup if the Cricket Australia investigator decided he should be sacked. I think the worst thing that could realistically happen is he'll get sent back to counselling for an 'undefined' period (in other words, until the selectors really want him again...).

The other reason he won't be sacked is seen by the way the selectors rushed him back into our team. He had made virtually NO runs for Queensland. So with no form and just 3 months after he'd been sent home they fell over themselves (and turfed a decent replacement - Watson) to get him back in the side. Australia has Symonds fever...
