New Zealand tour of India (Sept-Oct 2016)

Ross Taylor is surprisingly very weak against left arm spinners. I still remember how he always struggled against Herath in the past. Somehow needs to get the wicket of Willaimson to put them under real pressure.

What a beauty by Ashwin .. needed something special to get rid of Kane ..

Really surprised that they would send a left hand batsman to bat against Ashwin before BJ Watling.

Ronchi really looks like he is going to take on the spinners here and counter attack

Yeh but I don't think that is best of the idea by looking at the amount of spin Ashwin is getting.

This field is not working really ..

Good test match this. On a knife edge, really. Goes to show that even typical Indian tracks can provide you with competitive test cricket, provided the opposition is willing to grind it out. We need to restrict NZ to 350 at the most. Lets not forget that Watling is a really hard nut to crack and Craig/Wagner are all handy batsmen. Anything more than 350 and I`m not comfortable with us setting a big enough target for NZ to chase. Of all the sides that will tour India for tests this year, the NZ batting is the most suited when it comes to dealing with Asian conditions.

Lot of people on this board criticise Jaddu a lot. He's been the difference in this test match so far.

The criticism is primarily directed at his utility (rather lack of it) in overseas conditions. Noone can question his place in the side in Indian conditions.

Ashwin hasn't set the world alight outside the sub continent either. With neither bat, nor ball. He just doesn't have a big mouth like Ashwin.

Well. Jaddu is equally good. I have been telling this since the SA series. Yes, his batting is horrible for an all-rounder but his bowling is excellent and there shouldn't be any doubt regarding his fielding. His batting is pretty good in the domestic but hasn't been able to replicate in internationals. That's the main issue. He always plays crucial knocks. I remember vs SA in first or second test, he scored a crucial 40-50 and played out 100 balls. That knock was an advantage to us. Similarly, he helped us reach the 300+ mark in this match. Even this was a crucial knock. If he could improve his batting a little more, his position in the playing XI should not be a doubt.

Dream day for India. Expect one way traffic in this test match from here on. A word on Lokesh Rahul- Easily, by some margin the most improved batsman in international cricket. His timing and range of scoring areas has left me a bit gobsmacked. I think, if he can continue to work hard, and just very slightly curb his temperament, we are seeing one of the best modern day openers of the next generation of Indian batting. The lad has technique in abundance and by the look of things, he's added some spunk to his batting now. For those that say the IPL is this and that, just see how his game has transformed to a stunning new level after he was drafted to the RCB and in the company of VK. My only fear is him overdoing the aggression.
