New Zealand's Tour Of India Aug-Sep 2012

This performance by Southee (and to a lesser extent van Wyk) is why I'm sitting over here in New Zealand and not over there selecting our XI. :p

I told you Southee will do well :P

7 wickets in India is a fantastic achievement for a fast bowler. NZ had a very good chance to push India on back foot with getting a good lead in 2nd innings but they screwed up everything again by collapsing to 232. I know they still have one more wicket to go but I think India will chase down any target under 300. NZ can still challenge India but I don't think it will swing as much as it did in first inning for NZ pacers. Spinners will come into the play now as Ashwin did and I don't think Patel is good enough to get through this Indian lineup.

250 odd is a very competitive total in Indian conditions. The Kiwis though would have hoped for Dan Vettori to have been in there. Still, I believe that they can win it from here on,given the poor form of our batsmen.A couple of early blows- expected [Sehwag,Gambhir and Tendulkar] will put NZL in a commanding position.

As for the BLR wicket, its fast and does not bode well with the Indian batsmen much. Our problem seems to be such wickets. A little green and the batsmen will turn green:(

I feel NZ might have played into India's hands here by not getting a big enough lead. With NZ not having a really threatening spinner to make use of this pitch and the conditions, India might chase down the target pretty easily when they get to it.

Both pitches have been excellent for test matches. The Hyderabad one gave enough assistance to the spinners who could rout NZ completely. And this pitch is a beauty. Seems to be producing a close and tight test match.

This is the kind of pitch Puddleduck was talking about, a pitch with some carry to encourage the faster bowlers.

What the fearsome tweak are these umpires on, you could drive a bus through that gap...

That could be the worst decision I have ever seen. No surprises the calls favour India yet again, that partnership was looking quite threatening as well.

O raina this is a test cricket mate not the t20 :facepalm poor batting from raina. its all upto kohli and dhoni atm to do the job

Disappointed we couldn't pull it off but a great effort nonetheless. The Dhoni Kohli partnership was the difference in both innings in the end. Nice to see some fight in the team something we haven't seen enough of as of late. Still many issues with the batting, McCullum needs to bat 6 whether he likes it or not but the bowling is very promising. I think it might be time for Martin to call it quits right now, the 3 seamers in this game are the way forward.

Yeah, the thing about this game was that NZ were only challenging and competitive. It would have been really impressive if they'd controlled the match from the 3rd innings and taken the opportunity to dominate.

Ya ya, all is done, no need for a post mortem report on this one.

All I am really interested in is coming up next- The Return of the Yuvraj :yes

Congrats to India on defeating one of the weakest Kiwi sides weve seen in ages, good bowling from Southee and good batting from Kholi once more, Ashwin didnt impress.

Well 2-0 is a good start and as expected this would have happened :). New Zealand were better when they toured us in 2010 and we were better then what we were in 2010.

Now comes the return of Yuvraj Singh :D. Very excited about it and really want to see him bat.

Don't get me wrong because I've always thought that McCullum shouldn't be opening in Tests or ODIs (I don't care where he bats in T20Is), but atm I think that this top four is the way forward for us. If you drop McCullum down to 5/6, then the problem that we've had over the last several years is just going to come back where we have a new opening combination every series.

The only alternative I see atm is if they want to go with a Guptill - Watling combination, which I don't think they want to do because Watling should be next in line for the gloves after van Wyk since he's already 32.

I've never really rated either Flynn or Franklin, but they were both promising this series. Long term though Franklin is not going to be there, but maybe Flynn could be. That would mean that we only have one more batting orientated position to fill, which if Ryder can sort himself out he can slot right into.

Therefore we have:

1. Guptill
2. McCullum
3. Williamson
4. Taylor
5. Flynn
6. Franklin -> Ryder
7. van Wyk -> Watling
8. Vettori/Patel -> Nethula?
9. Bracewell
10. Southee
11. Boult
