Story npower Tests, Natwest Series, Natwest Challenge

Good innings there from the Aussies. Looks like Ravi's patch is doing the business.

yes the patch is indeed doing the business.

England v Australia
Lords

Well it might not have much importance since both these teams have already qualified for the final, but England v Australia matches can never be taken lightly. These two arch rivals dont like losing to one another.

Conditions: Sunny, Mild, no chance of rain.

Pitch: Normal, high scoring wicket. Also a lot of pace on this wicket. Too bad Brett Lee aint playing today.

Toss: Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to field first.

Teams:
Both teams have rested some of the regulars. For Australia, in come Hogg, Symonds, and Kasprowicz. Clarke who dint play against India, also returns to the side, and will open with Adam Gilchrist.
For England, Clarke, Gough, Giles and Sajid Mahmood have been included in place of Pieterson, Hoggard, Blackwell and Collingwood, all of whom are being given a rest before the all important final.

UPDATE

AUSTRALIA 285-8 (50 Overs)
R. Ponting 115(119)
B. Hogg 40*(21)

J. Anderson 3/47
S. Harmison 2/46

Australia dint get off to the best of starts when Gilchrist was dismissed early, caught by Anderson just inches inside the boundary line, off Gough. After that Clarke and Ponting steadied the Australian innings. Harmison's first spell was superb, conceding just 6 runs from his four overs. Anderson was first change, and he picked up the wicket of Clarke. Ponting meanwhile went on piling the runs. Martyn dint last long as he top edged a Giles delivery, in attempt to sweep it, straight to James Anderson at square leg. Australia at this stage were 85/3. Symonds and Ponting then were involved in a useful partnership, before Symonds in an attempt to increase the run rate, was caught by Anderson off the bowling of Vaughan. White and Watson played a few shots and scored the odd boundary, but dint last long. Ponting went on to record yet another ODI hundred. Ponting was eventually dismissed for 115, when he was caught by Sajid Mahmood off Anderson. Hogg however smashed 40 runs in just 21 balls towards the end, as Australia scored 86 runs in the last 10 overs. A fantastic performance by the Aussies, and England have a tough target to chase.

Ravi's patch seems to have worked well. Good luck England.

well i have bad news for england fans. england have slumped to 153-8 in 35 overs. great bowling performance by the aussies, especially by bichel who has picked up four wickets. I will post the screens and stats after the match is completed. but as it stands now australia are well on track of a fifth consecutive victory in the natwest series. they are still unbeaten in the series.

UPDATE

ENGLAND 169 all out (43 Overs)
R. Clarke 51(56)
M. Trescothick 39(50)

A. Bichel 4/28
C. White 3/23

Australia won the match by 116 runs
Man of the Match: Ricky Ponting

Another terrible batting performance by England has resulted in suffering a huge thrashing at the hands of the World Champions. Rikki Clarke top scored with 51. England got off to a decent start after having scored 48-0 in the first 10 overs. However then Ponting brought in the first and second change bowlers, Bichel and Watson. Bichel tore through the England batting while Watson supported him from the other end. Strauss, Trescothick, Bell and Jones were all dismissed by Bichel, while Watson picked up the wicket of Giles. England then continued to collapse, as wickets started falling regularly. At the end England only managed 169, 116 runs behind Australia's 285. Australia hence remain unbeaten in this tournament, and pick up all six points in this game. England really have to find an immediate solution if they want to beat Australia in the final.

Hard luck mate, but its no shame losing to the mighty OZs.

You can gear up for the finals and look forward to overhauling them in the most important match of the entire series. It takes just one good game to beat the unbeaten.

Well said Ravi.
Good luck vaughanie in the Final.

Thanks Ravi and Mike. But my record against the aussies is very poor. 4 matches, 4 defeats. But like Ravi said, it takes just one good game to beat the unbeaten. Lets hope that one good game is the final.

you stand a pretty good chance, you did rest some good players, i hope you win but there is just something about the aussies in this tournament...
