Overs 16-18: Tendulkar's Mastery Takes Eagles Closer

McCullum is given the Tendulkar Treatment
1-3.png

Tendulkar late cuts a boundary; picks the gap perfectly with his sweep; gracefully on drives four more to bring up his 50

Skipper Brendon McCullum elected to bowl out his brother Nathan's spell, and leave at least two new bowlers to finish off the innings, with the four previously used bowlers all bowled out. It appeared to not pay off, as Tendulkar dealt to each of McCullum's first three balls with mastery only he could possess, to bring up his half century. It had been slightly slow going for Tendulkar, but he was now upping the ante at just the right time.

McCullum finished his spell with figures of 4-0-42-1; not a great day at the office, as his only wicket was Vincent, who in hindsight might have been better if he was kept in. The Eagles now require 35 off the final four overs.

Styris goes but Williamson continues where he left off
3-2.png

Styris is finally beaten in flight by Harbhajan; Williamson cuts Myburgh for 4; Tendulkar slog sweeps a much needed six

The injection of Harbhajan Singh into the attack immediately sparked trouble for the Eagles - his first ball went straight on with the arm and Styris, having charged way down the pitch, was well and truly stranded. His cameo had been invaluable to the Eagles but he left with a lot of work still to do.

Thankfully Kane Williamson looked on top of his game, immediately using his feet and feeding Tendulkar the strike but Harbhajan, having earlier dropped his Indian teammate, remember, was determined enough to keep the over to just 3 runs.

However the Stallions needed a new bowler - and Johannes Myburgh was the best they could muster. He began well, with a dot ball to Tendulkar, but the modern master of batting and perhaps his apprentice in Kane Williamson, proceeded to take a mighty 19 runs from his over. The game was now the Eagles' to lose - just 12 required off 2 overs, with plenty of batting to come. Can Harbhajan pull something special out of the bag or will the current pair be too good?

After 18 Overs
Northern Eagles: 154/4
Harbhajan 1-0-3-1, Myburgh 1-0-19-0
Northern Eagles require 12 runs off 2 overs with 6 wickets in hand

Change the title!

All hail the OPL T20 Champs, Northern Eagles! :)

Eagles gonna win this!

Amazing writing and presentation mate! KUTGW! :thumbs

Eagles should do that easily now. Harbhajan is the man who'll finish off the things in style, in two sixes. :p

Eagles to win it from here, only a miracle can give opposite result.
Also I can't believe that it was harbhajan's first over, poor cpataincy there.

Overs 19-20: Last Ball Drama

Stallions Fight To Stay Alive
1-4.png

McCullum fields after letting a bye go through; makes up for it as Tendulkar is stumped; Vettori tries to be too delicate

Harbhajan bowled the penultimate over of the innings, and with just 12 needed, it would need to be a good over. Unfortunately Williamson and Tendulkar continued to latch onto anything lose and although he bowled two dot balls, the others were dispatched for runs and suddenly the Eagles had taken 10 off the over, and were just 3 runs away from OPL glory.

McCullum decided to stick with Myburgh the final over, despite leaking 19 from his first attempt. With Myburgh's bowling history, surely it couldn't prove to be a masterstroke? Thinks looked bad as he fired a quicker ball wide of off which McCullum could only deflect with his gloves, and consequently gave away a bye. But next the unthinkable happened - Myburgh beat Tendulkar and flight and would you believe it, McCullum whipped the bails off and the Stallions had their man. But would it be too late? Vettori was the new man at the crease and proceeded to miss the first two balls outside off, trying to late cut them wide of backward point, but to no avail.

It's Not Finished Yet!
2-4.png

Vettori hits the levelling run; Williamson drives the final ball down the ground; Wagner's throw is good and has him short of his ground

With two balls to go, Vettori finally managed to lay bat on a late cut but a great effort from Dinesh Chandimal at backward point limited the shot to a single run. The scores were tied with a ball to go - what could Williamson come up with?

Myburgh went for the quicker, darted yorker but Williamson stepped out and across to hit it as hard as he could straight down the ground. However it was a very low full toss and all he could do was toe it to Wagner at mid off, who made no mistake with his throw. Williamson rocketed between the wickets but was caught well short of his ground are the scores are tied after 20 overs! The Northern Eagles batting card - Tendulkar provided the main hand and there were some small cameos but it
wasn't quite enough!

No one picked up more than 1 wicket for the Stallions - and no one could quite put together a full 4 overs
of limiting bowling

I knew it, I knew this will happen. You're so bloody good. :p Northern Eagles should have actually won this though...

WTH was that! And I was thinking that it was a piece of cake for the Eagles from there on. What an amazing turnaround that was. So a super over! Great season finale there, JC!
