Pulse Squad: Jerome Taylor, Yuvraj and Gul the big name signings Team News from Dylan Cleaver, OPL correspondent
The Pulse either had a very low budget, were unlucky with their bids, or else were very tactical with the money they spent - to put it bluntly their overseas players don't stack up as impressively as any other team's so far.
Nevertheless, they will be stronger for the addition of West Indian quick bowler and lower order biffer Jerome Taylor, and Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh, who both fetched surprisingly high salaries of $700,000 apiece.
They have also gained the services of Umar Gul for $450,000 which was good value as he has really made an art of bowling in Twenty20 cricket. England T20 specialiast Michael Lumb made the squad for $300,000 while Zimbabwe's best batsman Brendan Taylor was also a bargain buy at $150,000. Easily the leading associate player in the world, Ryan ten Doeschate was also signed by the pulse for $100,000. All in all a solid overseas contingent but one that lacks the superstar-like quality that other sides have gained from the auctions.
Stephen Fleming returns to New Zealand cricket as the player-coach for the Pulse, and he has a good outfit of players to work with in Jesse Ryder, Grant Elliott, and Andy McKay, all who recently burst onto the international scene, thus have plenty to prove. Jeetan Patel, who will be vice captain, and James Franklin also offer experience, having been strong performers for Wellington over their years.
The Entire Squad is:

Jeetan Patel (vc)
Grant Elliott
James Franklin
Mark Gillespie
Andy McKay
Chris Nevin
Neal Parlane
Jesse Ryder
Luke Woodcock
