Open Beta Testing - [PCCS 0.1.5]

ok, i've also been making an ipl database for the sim, i was planning on releasing it in here when it's done, do you want me to do that, or would you like me to send it to you via pm first, or for private tweaking before the public release.

anyway, one problem i came across when making the grounds, is that when i wanted to put an ' in to the stadium name, it crashes. i am sure that it is the apostrophe, because when i named the stadium without the ', it worked, and when i tried to change it by adding an ', it crashes.

In my IPL database, it contains all stadiums from IPL1 and IPL2, e.g. India and SA stadiums.
plus, as there are no restrictions on squad numbers, i've gone through the entire list of the squad on cricinfo and all the abilities are multiples of 5.

You can release them as you see fit.

Cool, thanks for catching that bug. I suspect it will be for any string field--so player names will probably be affected as well. I'll try to get the fix in in the next release.

Yeah, I guess its the old SQL issue. You'll have to parse the string and replace all ' with '' I think.

i was trying to create st george's park for the IPL Database, however, it was fine when i tried to put a , in.

harrisb added 5 Minutes and 12 Seconds later...

and also, i don't think that there are many bugs within gameplay, maybe just in the smaller details of creation of players and stadia.

How hard would it be to program in an option to have a picture to accompany a team, stadium or player.
I don't know how hard it would be to program this in, but it would be quite easy to find the pictures as cricinfo has pictures of players and stadiums. it would make a great addition to the sim.

Yeah... I have fixed that bug. It is a one-line fix, but unfortunately you'll have to wait for the next release for it to work properly!

Yeah... every few matches I sim the side chasing first puts up about 160 and the chasing side collapses for around 60. If you see this in a match, immediately go to your installation directory (if on XP--C:\Program Files\sohummm\PCCS) or your Virtual Store directory (if on Vista/7--C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\sohummm\PCCS) and send me the newest *-Match.log. The * is in the format YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.ms so that it sorts by date. This log basically writes the probability of each outcome at each stage of the ball generation algorithm.

I don't know about actual stadiums and the like, but I plan to allow teams to have a logo. In PCCS, this logo will show up on the player page as well as an translucent background on the scorecard.

another slight bug i've found is in the scorecards

on the RCB scorecard, the final score isn't there because the name of the team is too long for one line, therefore pushing the whole scorecard down a line, and there isn't a scroll option.

it's also a preview of my IPL Database.

Hey sohum.. i am ussing your sim for my league.. it's been working fine.. Do tell me two things..

1st is that do pitch variation bounce speed affect simming.. Like if it's 0 then probably low scoring ... if it's 10 then high scoring.. Is it like taht..

Also tell me when is the final release of it.. i am eagerly waiting.. this is the so far the world's best Sim ever made.. Good Graphics.. every thing...

i don't think you should be using this sim for your league, it may be very good, but it's still in development, and there are still so many bugs in the sim.

Sohum will fix these, but only with the help of testers, and if people rush straight into using this sim for their leagues.

but, and i'm sure that sohum has already said this, you're using this sim at your own risk, if there are problems, you've only got yourselves to blame.

Yes i know mate... it's working absolutely fine.. i have played matches too.. you can check IPL PC Style but i just wanted to know... will stadium quality as i mentioned before effect game play

Mihir Doshi added 0 Minutes and 21 Seconds later...

and harris can you send me IPL thing

it's not finished yet mihir, when it's done, i'll release it in here, but at the moment, release is looking to be around middle of next week.

anyhow, i'll pm you when it's done.

harrisb added 0 Minutes and 34 Seconds later...

and as you can see, there are problems that need to be fixed before it can be released.

no, but i think it will be around the time that PCCL 2010 begins, hopefully.

At the moment, pitch details do not affect the simulator in anyway. I'm hoping to implement these in the next release. There are 5 attributes that a pitch has:

Speed
- Controls utility of fast bowlers
- Controls ease of runscoring (higher is easier)

Grip
- Controls utility of spinners

Bounce
- Controls ease of runscoring (medium is easiest)
- Controls utility of faster bowlers

Variation
- Controls utility of bowlers (higher is harder to bat)
- Controls how quickly batsmen get into rhythm
- Controls likelihood of wickets (higher increases chance)

Deterioration
More applicable in FC matches--but this will control the rate of deterioration of the pitch. Deterioration will change how quickly a pitch loses speed and bounce and gains grip and variation. For example, with a variation of 10 (max value), a pitch with starting figures of 10 for bounce and speed and 5 for grip and variation will probably reach 5 for bounce and speed and 10 for grip and variation by day 3 of a game.

As a reminder, none of this has been implemented yet.

This is right on the money.

While using the sim in your leagues will improve the amount of feedback I receive and will uncover bugs quicker, it can also be a frustrating experience as a league administrator. It is really up to you and I can only promise a new release every 1-2 weeks, so that will be the minimum time between a bug being found and fixed.

sohum added 3 Minutes and 5 Seconds later...

Mate do you know exact release or approx release of this Sim...
The simulator contains many portions:

Simulation Components
- Twenty20 Engine
- OD Engine
- FC Engine

Auxiliary Components
- Statistics Engine
- Commentary Engine
- others...

Right now the T20 Engine is the only thing that is close to being complete. Understand, however, that the auxiliary components do not depend as much on the form of the game being played. For example, the statistics engine will not behave remarkably differently for T20's compared to Tests--since it just stores stats.

While the T20 engine will be ready in a few weeks and subject to tweaking and bugfixes, the commentary/statistics/etc. could take longer to be implemented.

Yeah... I've been wondering of ways to solve that. The short term solution I will provide is that in the next release the scorecard will omit all but the last word (the mascot). Unfortunately, this will mean that the name of the mascot must be one word.

This is a temporary fix until I introduce a field for "scorecard name" or something to that effect.
