What are your XIs of the most overrated and underrated players currently playing Test cricket.


Over-Rated XI:
1) P Hughes
2) V Sehwag
3) any Pakistani batsman
4) R Sarwan
5) Y Singh
6) JP Duminy
7) H Singh / B McCullum
8) S Broad
9) P Siddle / Umar Gul
10) Ishant Sharma (or any Indian seamer apart from Khan)
11) C Martin (or any kiwi seamer)

Under-Rated XI:
1) Alastair Cook
2) G Gambhir
3) Hashim Amla
4) T Samarawerra
5) M Guptil
6) B Nash
7) Mahmudullah
8) G Swann
9) R Harris/ M Aamer
10) J Anderson
11) M Asif

I'mn not sure anyone actually rates our seamers or Chris Martin in particular. I personally think they're all nil. Southee is one for the future though.

I just think that Martin has had way too much of a run in Test cricket, 50 odd matches already for such a below par cricketer. A jaffa every 10 overs just does not cut it.

Why is Hughes over-rated?

Averages like 60 in FC cricket with 13 centuries at just 21 years old.

Asif, Swann, Amla are rated highly at this moment. Asif is in everybody's XI and is the 2nd best if not the best pace bowler around. Swann is the best spinner and Amla is probably top 5 batsman.
Also Harris only has 2 test matches under his belt, cant even rate him.

Vettori is definitely underrated, McCullum is overrated. Collingwood is underrated IMO, same goes for Clarke and Katich.
Dont know if Sarwan can be called overrated when nobody really rates him as a great batsman just a good one.

Yea I was going to put Collingwood on there as well but choose Samarawerra who gets virtually no attention at all.

Vettori is not under-rated, he is probably the most over-rated player in the planet.

Vettori is not under-rated, he is probably the most over-rated player in the planet.

Its hard to overrate a guy who is NZ cricket by himself. Last year he was the best batsman, bowler, fielder, coach, selector the country had.

A little bit. I rate him as a good batsman. Looking at some other openers Tamim Iqbal has had a good year and is flying under the radar.

Yea I thought about Hilfy but he has been injured so I left him out.

7. Can't think of any overrated keepers. McCullum is just great so I can't call him overrated.

1. Simon Katich
2. Alastair Cook (Also Tamim Iqbal)
3. Martin Guptill
4. Paul Collingwood
5. Brendan Nash
6. Fawad Alam
7. Mark Boucher (The most underrated keeper I can think of)
8. Graeme Swann (It was Hauritz half a year ago though)
9. James Anderson
10. Kyle Mills
11. Ben Hilfenhaus

Yea this is for Test cricket only. As far as I am concerned all limited overs only players are over-rated.

EDIT: Nash has shown up in all 3 underrated XIs so far

Dravid is pretty much the captain and face of the underrated XI.

Wouldn't call Sehwag overrated tbh. He deserves the attention he has been getting recently. He has performances to back it up.
