@wasteyouryouth Wasn’t Rob Key a well regarded figure on Sky Cricket before he got his job at the ECB? Now that’s no guarantee of success but I suppose that is something compared to whatever’s going on at the PCB. I also remember Wright being well regarded similar to Taylor before they got their jobs.
Rob Key, much like Ed Smith, was seen as a 'sensible voice' at a time when England were having an Ashes meltdown. That is seemingly now the main qualification for whatever their role actually requires. He was annointed in the role by the media before he got it. The media narrative around cricket happens to be mostly driven by SKY, who he worked for.
Obviously there's a greater background to the PCB stuff. They seemed most stable when Rambo and Wasim Khan were running the show but they were ousted because they were Imran appointees.
It's one of these things where these kind of jobs are either not actually that important, so anyone can do them or require someone who has certain skills that can't necessarily be learned.
Key has made good decisions on who to appoint. Although, giving Ben Stokes test captaincy was the most obvious choice as far as I'm concerned and people could say Matthew Mott's appointment is looking bad even though he won a World Cup less than a year ago. England also haven't won a test series this year but, as a fan, it feels like we are undefeated, undisputed champions of the world.
You could look at most of these kind of decisions, at most boards, and they could all be questioned. The most powerful man in cricket only has his many jobs because his Daddy is the second most powerful politician in India.
