Not a good choice for head coach, imo. Chief selector is fine. At least there will be only one person to hold accountable.

Why not? It's unbelievable how much hype the roles have generated in Pakistan! The coach isn't a player. He won't make miracles happen but this is a step in the right direction and I love the new domestic structure!

The only reason is that he doesn't have any coaching experience. But i am definitely willong to give him a chance to see how it goes.

Coaching experience = 0 when someone like me (I meant MISBAH) :lol:lol:lol who has been a captain for 20 years takes the job. His temperament alone is > any course. I just don't get that Waqar appointment! He's an absolute moron in my opinion (nothing to do with his bowling) and if he couldn't do anything in his first 3 tenures I don't understand his benefit.

Hope the Pakistan people realise that these guys are not going to weave a wand of magic and overturn the mediocrity of Pakistan cricket. This is a step in the right direction for sure.

Well there's only one barometer with which to appraise this appointment and one only, the selection of Fawad Alam :p

All jokes aside the coach and selector roles are presumably both specialist full-time positions that require a hell of a lot of background research/analysis so it must be a tall order marrying the two together while at the same time massively increasing accountability as he is not just responsible for the performance of the team but also for the very squad they put out. The critique from the media for Pakistan's performances is going to be a double edged sword from here on in but despite the fact he has absolutely no experience at this level, which is worrying, his composure should serve him well and of course he is well loved by the Pakistani cricket fans already.

I agree completely with the Waqar Younis sentiment, although "moron" might be a bit too harsh. That was a really questionable decision at best. I'm truly tired of all the musical chairs with the same people in Pakistan cricket. Waqar Younis wasn't only a bad coach, he also didn't help chemistry at all. This is also a bit unfair to Misbah. Why would they have a senior player (and I think he was Misbah's coach as well), hovering around him. They should have given him space to make his own decisions.

And although I'm happy with Misbah's appointment, his tenure as captain didn't inspire confidence as far as merit based selection is concerned. He also either flat out refused or neglected to groom a future captain during his tenure. I've always thought Ganguly was the most important person in Indian cricket because of the way he was able to change the culture of Indian cricket and look ahead years after he knew he would be retired. Pakistan have never had that luxury with their captains, outside of Imran Khan. Hopefully, Misbah will have more foresight as a coach and selector.[DOUBLEPOST=1567815659][/DOUBLEPOST]
his composure should serve him well
This point is bang on the money. Especially considering the absurdity of sports media in Pakistan.

I'm sorry but that "moron" feeling is mostly an outburst because of his insinuating that India lost to England intentionally at the World Cup. Someone who thinks like that has no business being around a cricket team. Can you imagine the wisdom he will be imparting or teaching someone like a Hasnain who isn't perhaps mature enough to decide such things?

Under idol circumstances, I would have Sourav Ganguly coach Pakistan. He once stated in a short interview with a Pakistani news channel that Pakistani batsmen don't play textbook shots but invent new ones. Essentially absolutely nailed the problem in this one statement. One of our great batsmen had a bad of playing inside-out shots, thus turning potential boundaries into singles. Someone who can identify Pakistan's batting problems without having being involved with the team deserves a chance.

Haha if Ganguly becomes Pakistan coach then I don't think he can return to India safely.
Hopefully that day cames where India and Pakistan have good ties and we can start playing cricket in each other countries.

Sarfaraz Ahmed removed as Test and T20I Captain with immediate effect. Views ?
Sounds like a good decision but dont think that Babar is that kind. Babar has big responsibility on his young shoulders but will In sha Allah win a WC and bring consisitency in the team.

Azhar doesnt have even a decent captaincy record as he lost us a 3-0 series against Bangladesh in 2015 and also took Pakistan to 9th Position in ODI Rankings. Would be interesting to see that too.

Pretty interesting to see that Imad has not been given that captaincy role for T20s. I personally feel that he deserved it. This also makes the rumor feel real that Misbah was not happy with work ethic of Wahab,Haris,Imad.

This move will be make or break for Babar and if he can somehow keep up with his performances with bat and also deliver as a captain he might even go down as an ATG.

But, Sarfaraz has not been sacked from ODI captaincy. Will always remember Sarfaraz as a good player and lead Pakistan well especially that CT 2017 triumph. Still, feel that he should have been sacked from Test and ODI but not T20. I feel like he is a good captain but was not obeyed by the senior pros. Only in Pakistan, it can happen that previous captain doesnt even get a place in the next series. Good Luck to Sarfaraz!

Sounds like a good decision but dont think that Babar is that kind of leader guy. Pakistan desperately needs to win a WC in next 3 to 4 years or cricket will be dead in Pakistan. Its already declining alarmingly and you can see that when you have people like Akmal and Shehzad making comeback. Babar has big responsibility on his young shoulders but will In sha Allah win a WC and bring consisitency in the team.
.

What the hell are you about??? Why the hell would cricket be dead in Pakistan if we didn't win a WC?

Sarfaraz should be dropped from all form of captaincy - he hasn't made a consistent contribution with the bat in the best part of 2 years. Plus, he is hogging the place from Mohammad Rizwan who is actually a better keeper and far better batsmen - 2 centuries against Australia just before the WC.

Not sure about Azhar Ali as captain - seemed like quite a conservative captain and Pakistan never play well when we play conservative cricket - we are best when we attack and try and get on the front foot. But let's see how his tenor starts before passing any solid judgement.

Generally I like the move. Sarfaraz's sacking was long overdue and in fact, his position as a wicketkeeper/batsman should also be under scrutiny considering his recent form. It's been a long time since he lost that spunk that in fact saw him become a fan favourite during his first world cup. I also agree about Babar Azam and Azhar Ali not being the best choices. Babar might be ok or even good in the end. I just don't like putting that kind of pressure on literally the only player who you can consistently rely on. I would have tried out Imad in limited overs, just to see how he goes.

Also, I don't agree at all with the cricket being dead sentiment in Pakistan. I think declining economic conditions mean people just don't have the time or resources to pursue cricket as a viable option. That coupled with corruption and nepotism increasing at an alarming rate means people become disheartened with the process. I don't think that means the game has a few years or it will die, but these things are definitely not good signs at all, that is for sure.

Are you living in Pakistan currently and if not when did you visit last time? I see loads of kids playing Soccer on the streets and people are just not that interested in the game. As I am in School, I interact with all kinds of people and believe me I hear more about Ronaldo's Ballon D'or and Messi's golden shoe than Babar's 1 ranking or about Pakistan being no 1 T20 team in RANKINGS.

Pakistan team seriously lacks a big star currently someone like Imran Khan or Afridi. Yes Afridi was not a great player but oh man he had some crazy following. No one is a brand and that is really hurting us.

When I ask people around me they say that they are just not interested due to inconsistent performances. They obliterated India in CT 2017 but have since then just been getting destroyed. Asia Cup was a great reality check for us and it ended our World BEATERS dilemma

Cricket is the biggest and most popular game but it is going down the hill fast. And IF I agree that Cricket is rising and has no sign of decline then why dont we have talent? We dont have a single person in 220 Million to lead our team well. Akmal and Shehzad are our stars. You might know or might not that Waqar has called a Bowling camp for Australia series and we have called Ehsan Adil, Tabish Khan(33 years.old), Imran Khan (Medium pacer+33 years old),Bilawal Bhatti and Rahat Ali(31 years) for the upcoming bowlers camp. Where are our world champion bowlers like Wasim and Waqar. Will we take these 33 year 130 kph bowlers to Australia?

The truth is corruption and lack of proper infrastructure is destroying sports in our country. Jahangir Khan won 555 games of Squash in a row. We are not even close to top 50 in Squash. We have won 4 WC in Hockey and currently we are at 17th in rankings. We are just a mediocre team and just cant keep wining flukes like CT.

I do have high hopes from Wasim Khan and Mani but it will take some time and I really admire how Wasim is still working even after the pathetic journalists attacked him on his salary and went below ethical limits.Note it right now that if we dont bring consisitency in our team after 15 years cricket will be dead
