Pakistan tour of Australia and New Zealand 2023/24

Honestly, can't blame anyone for Day One results. Didn't stay up to watch it for that reason.

Shaheen has been off-color (GIVE HIM REST!!!) for some time and on top of that Khurram and Aamer Jamal are debutants. Haris Rauf did the right thing by not playing this Test series - he would have been pinged around the stadium.

Expected a huge 100 from Warner and we got it - even he knows this is an easy stat padding series. Feels weird to get Agha as a front-line spinner.

Honestly, I just hope Shan Masoof doesn't get fired after this series. He is atleast bringing in new ideas as a captain.

If they’ve made their bed with Masood they should stick by it. I don’t know how good his captaincy is but he sounds articulate and astute enough whenever I’ve heard him speak.

Speaking is not as important as actually being a good captain. Masood might be, pretty sure he captained his county side and on the first day, reviews are positive. But a captain needs to be in the team based first and foremost on his performance...the guy is averaging about 20 something in tests lol

It was actually a way better day for Pakistan than many expected. They ended up dropping two catches which could have taken a 100 runs off Aus total. The bowlers did well in spite of their inexperience and fitness issues.

Now over to the batsmen to at least ge t350.

RIZWAN HAS TO PLAY.

It is beyond mockery that one of the finest wicket-keeper batters this country has ever produced is forced to play backup to a washed hasbeen who hasn't got an iota of self-respect or the awareness that it might just be time for him to move the fukc on from cricket, at least at the highest level.

Almost like the best way to manage a young fast bowler isn't to pick them when they're a teenager and then play them in every match of every format so long as they're at least 75% fit
Related to this, only 13 Pakistani seam bowlers have taken 10 or more Test wickets over the age of 30.

Compare that to England, where 13 fast bowlers over the age of 30 have taken 10 or more Test wickets in the last 20 years, and five of them have done so this year. Pakistan are ruining their bowlers physically long before they ever get the chance to fully understand their game.

Absolutely, we have enough pacers, as shown by Khurram and Jamal today, to have a rotation policy.

Also this, apparently, if this guy knows what he’s talking about

Last three years Shaheen has played more matches (85) across all formats and bowled more international overs (944) than any other bowler (England and Pakistan). And let's face it some of these overs have been bowled when he's not 100%.

Shaheen (85 matches) 944.3
Anderson (27 matches) 912
Broad (24) 782.2
Robinson (19) 619.4
Wood (45) 602.4
Woakes (50) 548.3
Hasan Ali (46) 532.5
Naseem (43) 501.5
Haris Rauf (90) 494.5
Stokes (63) 474

Overall, only Southee (80 matches 1138 overs), Starc (74, 1053.3) and Cummins 65, 1000.5) have bowled more overs.

When you factor in domestic T20 Shaheen has probably bowled more overs overall than any of those when you factor in PSL, The Hundred, The Blast.

Shaheen 207.3
Southee 81.5
Cummins 46.4
Starc 0

Southee still has more overs but Shaheen has bowled in 144 innings compared with Southee's 123.

And Mr Unreliable Wahab Riaz then had the audacity to call out Rauf for not wanting to sit through an away test series immediately following a world cup.

How to manage fast bowlers, especially when they're young is a pretty simple template many other countries have used.

Don't play them in every bilateral ODI/T20 series, prioritise tests (problem here is Pakistan have such large gaps between test series that performance and form will drop off) and limit T20 leagues (although the PCB is on the right track limiting contracted players to just 2 leagues).

Another major issue is the PCBs medical staff must be one of the worst going, they have screwed up recovery after recovery.

I didn't see him initially then included him. He's still bowled half the overs and Shaheen has bowled more innings which is probably a better metric if you are looking at the frequency of which a bowler has to put themselves through it. In that instance only Southee has bowled in more innings than Shaheen.
