Pakistani Tour of New Zealand, Dec-Feb 2010/11

Hey if they can score runs in NZ conditions then the SC should be a cake walk

Too right. If I want to watch some live Test cricket, I can't pop down to Eden Park anymore. It's an hour and a bit drive down to Seddon Park, which I have been tempted to do but couldn't be bothered. I'm pretty sure they moved Tests out of Auckland because no one came to watch the games.

It was because they don't want to see empty stands, as that looks bad.
They would get more people to Eden Park than they do to Napier etc.

I live three streets from Eden Park, so I used to go down to all five days of the tests there, even after school etc.

NZC are holding test matches at cricket grounds rather than rugby grounds in drag. (exception of napier which is the opposite). Makes sense really, as the grass banks are a much better option than a hard seat when you're there for the whole day.

The other thing is that Eden Park looks ugly with half built stands and cranes and what not. So hosting a test here isn't a good option either.

It makes sense what they're doing, but it would also make sense to make a test cricket ground in Auckland ASAP.

A lot of people are fearing the the longer format of the game is losing popularity, and it doesn't help that 1/3 of our population isn't exposed to the greatest form of the game.

I know there have been talks of making the number two at Eden Park a test ground, but as much as I want that to happen it really isn't practical because of the small nature of the ground. One whole side of it is extremely close to the road, so if they were going to expand it they would have to stuff up Sandringham road, and on the opposite side is the number one west stand, so it pretty much takes out it expanded it east-west, so the only way you could realistically expand it is by longing it the north-south way.

I just think Auckland cricket have to say this is where we want our home to be, and this is where we're going to try and built/develop a ground that is up to test standard.

Sure enough play ODI/T20I matches at Eden park, but whether it is Colin Maden or North Harbour Stadium number two, at least they should make an effort to get a proper cricket ground up to international standard in Auckland.

Colin Maiden cant be made bigger either being really close to the road on two sides, so really they have to build a new stadium somewhere for test cricket and i dont see that happening.

The other thing is that there must've been some survey or something done as to how much crowds are we getting at test match venues, and Eden Park was probably not worth the effort to maintain such a big ground which would've cost alot, thus they moved out.

Although it would be great to see test cricket back in auckland, realistically that probably wont happen.

With rugby being the more prominent sport in NZ, money will probably go towards building and upgrading rugby grounds. And with the Rugby World Cup next year, it's not looking as if Test cricket will return to Auckland for a long time yet. Sad really....

Nothing in Dunedin -.-
I still want Carisbrook to be turned into atleast a 1 day ground, as it is just gonna be rotting away with no rugby there.

A while ago I heard something about the North Harbour Stadium number two ground may be used in the future for test cricket.
I haven't actually been in North Harbour Stadium for ages, and have no idea what the number two's like, but from driving past it there seems to be a lot of space out there.

I didn't even know North Harbour Stadium had a second ground. I used to drive out past Albany quite a bit for my old work. I'm guessing it would be too small. A bit like Eden Park's Outer Oval maybe?

There's quite a lot of space near it to expand the field though isn't there?

(I haven't been that far north in a while so there may be a few buildings there now :p)

I might of heard it wrong, as it was ages ago.
I might of heard that there were talks about them building a number two ground out there for cricket, can't remember exactly.
IIRC there is a heap of space, so I'm not sure if size would be an issue.

Here we go, they have like five grounds out there.

They could build a new cricket pitch to the north of that stadium, there's room there. Or get rid of the carparks at the current number two ground, and build some stands.

What's the Auckland Great Barrier Island Car Fly?

Pakistan should get creamed without Amir and Asif to be honest. We are pretty dire though.
