Here you can suggest commentary lines for the new PC simulator being developed.
Please use the following key when posting to make it easy:
(bat) means batsman
(bwl) means bowler
(fld) means fielder
(wk) means keeper
This is when using names. If you want to just say "Great fielding by the slips cordon there," that's fine, only use these keys for names. Example of this is "Great shot by Ponting" would be "Great shot by (bat)"
There are hundreds in the TAOC forum, and they aren't indexed, but these will so if anyone finds good ones there I'll put them in here.
Commentary Lines suggested so far (by category):
Dot balls:
Woah, that's huge! Absolutely massive. I'm talking about that woman sitting in Bay 3. Just look at her eat that donut. Oh yes, and there was no run.
Erm yeah I'd like one litre of blue paint please. Yes ladies and Gentlemen, anything's more entertaining than that delivery. No runs.
Slow legbreak there from (bwl). (bat) swung twice at it!
He's tempted for a shot, but leaves it alone.
Singles:
(bat) slaps that off his pads for a cheeky single.
(bowl) was a bit straight there, (bat) works it to fine leg for a casual run.
He's hit that very well... but a fielder gets to it and safes the boundary!
A nice clean shot into the space there; one run.
A flick off the pads results in just the single there.
Well defended and they go for the quick single.
Two runs:
Worked away cleverly, through the gap for two.
Hit to the sweeper for two.
Good running from [bat], turning one into two.
Risky single. Chance for (fld) but overthrows.
Great fielding there stopped a certain boundary.
Three runs:
Into the gap and they run three, good batting.
Stopped just in front of the boundary after a long chase from [fld], three runs.
Great fielding there stopped a certain boundary.
Four runs:
That shot was a thing of beauty. 4 runs for (bat).
What a shot! (bat) flicked it off his hips, middled it and its racing away to the boundary.
He's hit that incredibly sweet... and it's fallen just short of the boundary. Unlucky for (bat).
I don't think he knew much about that. He just raised the bat and it's gone flying over the slip area for four runs.
4! (bat) took a step back and pulled it for a boundary.
A brilliant cover drive that beats the fielder. 4 for (bat).
A risky shot that pays off for (bat). 4 runs for him.
Short, wide, you know the drill.
That's been cut late for four. A very elegant shot!
Six runs:
(bat) launches into that one, that's a huge shot, six all the way!
He saw it like a beachball and smashed it over the boundary for six!
That's six all the way. We're going to need another ball, as there's no chance we're getting that one back.
(bat) hits it big, it's gone all the way! 6 more to the total.
SIX! (BAT) charges down the track and wallops that waay over long on! Great shot!
Short pitched, (BAT) goes for the pull - A top edge and it's gone over the keepers head for a...SIX!
SIX! Oh what a shot! Ball delivered full and straight, (BAT) gracefully goes inside out and easily clears the ropes for six more.
Wow that's huge. It's into nextdoor's garden. Mister, can we have our ball back?
(Bat) has struck that one well, but there is a fielder under it. He jumps backwards but can only push it over the rope. Maybe he should have been a goalie?!
How can you do that? Why would you do that? That guy sacrificed man's best friend a beer to take that catch, it's just no good enough. Pathetic from you sir, you should be ashamed.
That's dug in short & it's been hooked for six. Super shot!
SIIIXXEERR! That's gone absolutely miles. As they would say in tennis; new balls please!
Wow! That's huge by (bat). Straight into the car park.
Wickets (bowled):
Bowled him! (bat) didn't see it till late and he played all around it.
Gone! (bat) is bowled. What a delivery from (bwl).
That'll teach him a lesson, protect your middle stump or you won't last long, and you might end up with a fair few kids.
He's bowled him! The umpires going to need a spade to dig that stump back out of the ground!
Oh, he's played on. Not enough room for the cut shot and he's paid the price.
Out! Bowled 'em! A beautiful inswinger from (BWL) rips through the defense of the batsman to knock down leg stump! Brilliant!
Gone! What a ripper! A Googly from (BWL), the batsman didn't pick it and left it alone, coming back in and hitting off stump!
Bowled him! That was a terrific inswinging yorker by (Bowl). (Bat) had no answer to that one.
Bowled! Got him! And (bwl) celebrates in a way that says "Next, please!"
Fantastic piece of bowling there, the slow ball just totally decieved (bat). A wicket for (bowl).
Wickets (LBW):
OUT! (Bat) done in by a that beautiful in-swinger. (Bowl) appeals and the umpire raises his finger without hesitation.
That's missing leg, missing off and hitting middle about half way up!
The batsman can walk for that. That's as plumb as it gets.
There was two noises for me. Yes, replay shows an inside edge. (Bat) should feel very unlucky there.
That was plumber than the man who fixes my kitchen sinks! Out!
Wickets (Caught):
Edged, and caught easily at first slip! A lazy shot from (bat).
It's up, up in the air! Whose coming around it? It's (fld) coming under it, and thats Brilliantly taken! What a catch!
Gone! The ball pitched short, deviation back in to the batsman, gets an inside edge, and (WK) dives to his left to pull of a fantastic one handed catch!
He went for half a dozen, but times it poorly. Caught easily in the deep and (bwl) gets his man.
That's a faint edge & well taken by (WK). A loud appeal & the umpire declares it not-out!!! But (Bat) is walking... this is superb sportsmanship!
Yep! That's the end of (bat), he feathers a catch to the keeper and he is gone.
Tail enders shot, gone.
Wickets (Stumped):
(bat) comes out of his crease. He misses it completely, and (wk) is quick to whip the bails off.
Run outs:
Appeals from the fielder and... he's out! (bat) unfortunate to get run out as replays show he was in fact in.
Struck hard from (BAT), and beautifully stopped! There's a mix up, (FLD) fires in the throw, and HITS! The umpire has no question and the finger goes up; what terrific fielding!
Poor communication! 'Yes, no, yes, no' from the batsman and he's run out and sent back to the pavillion.
Chances/Unsuccessful Appeals:
(bat) edges it but it's safe! In between the slips cordon there, they couldn't get near it! Flukey shot, but it trickles away for 4 all the same.
I know we are supposed to be commentators rather than conspiracy theorists, but (bat) has paid someone something. That was plumb.
Whole team goes up for LBW but it's sliding down leg side.
Whole team goes up for LBW it has hit the batsman outside off stump.
Whole team goes up for LBW it's going over the top of the stumps.
Whole team goes up for LBW [bat] got bat on that one.
Bowler goes up for LBW but it's going way down leg side.
Bowler goes up for LBW but no support from the rest of his team, or the umpire.
Bowler goes up for LBW but he has middled that onto his pad.
A crazy appeal there from (wk). Rather optimistic.
Dropped Catches:
(bat) has skied it, (fld) is underneath it, it's very high, and he's dropped it! Terrible fielding, and (bat) survives.
(fld) has ignored common cricket conventions of trying to catch the ball and has chosen to let it hit the ground. We'll see how that one pans out.
Hit and miss:
(bat) takes a wild baseball swing, but doesn't manage to get bat on ball.
