Yes its expensive then Geforce 9600GT but PS3 does give me assurance that I can run games for atleast 3-4 yrs. But this can't be said about 9600 as Radeon HD 4000 & Geforce 10 series is coming up with a new Windows Vienna.Meh, you needed to only spend 10000 bucks for a 9600GT and you could've run even Crysis, so rest assured about others. But a PS3 costs more than three times isn't it?
Great. So you measure graphics cards life with newer models coming up? You mean if a Geforce 10 comes up I need to upgrade again? Where are you getting this logic from, because its completely wrong. Heck if I can play games anyways, why would I upgrade to Geforce 10 or Radeon 4000?Yes its expensive then Geforce 9600GT but PS3 does give me assurance that I can run games for atleast 3-4 yrs. Or even I think of buying 9600GT it won't be compatible with my PSU & Motherboard. If not compatible with the motherboard I'll have to buy a new PC isn't it.
I didn't mean that what I wanted to say is the graphics card keep getting older and become incompatible. You will have to buy a new one in this case for e.g My Radeon X300 could run games until umm 2005-2006 I suppose now see it isn't compatible with most of the games except games like Cricket which does run on low-end PC's.Great. It looks like you buy things to show off. Because as long as things are working, no proper person would think of buying a new card just because a new generation has come up, and not until you want to show off
And btw, even when you bought them in 2005, they were outdated stuff already so you should've actually brought them in 2003-2004. If you make the right buy there's no problem. One more thing. The x300 you are talking about is most likely an onboard chipset, so you never bought a graphics card anyway.....I didn't mean that what I wanted to say is the graphics card keep getting older and become incompatible. Consoles don't have this problem
I won't choose one over the other because there are obvious differences, strengths and weaknesses for each.
If you buy a console, it's pretty much guaranteed to last you at least five years, no updgrades necessary, but, of course, when now-current-gen graphics can't be improved anymore on 360 and PS3 games, then all the games will just "look the same," unlike a PC, where, because you can buy graphics cards, game graphics will always be getting better and better, although game sizes will be getting bigger and bigger.
I find a lot of games are better suited to each "platform" if you will, such as RTS games (StarCraft, C&C) are a lot better and easier to use on a PC, while driving games and a lot of RPG's would be easier to play on a console. Sports games, especially the ones like Madden and PES, which have extensive "career modes" would be easier to use on a PC with a game controller, as the many menus are easier to move through with a mouse.
The obvious disadvantage of consoles for years was the fact that you couldn't mod games or download patches for bugs, whereas on a PC not only were the graphics better and the games deeper, but the games were also moddable and patches were easily downloaded.
Nowadays though, with the Xbox Live and PS3 Downloadable Content, patches are available for games if necessary, and extras (such as map packs or extra levels in a campaign) are frequently being put up for download. And nowadays, the best graphics cards are usually around $1000, and a PC gamer has to upgrade their system nearly every six months now just to keep up-to-date with other systems and games.
Brilliantly put. And about Crysis, meh, I've been saying it for ages, its a generation ahead from even current PC games. Its engine has been made to keep the trilogy in mind, which will last till 2011, so they had to future proof the engine to keep up with the titles coming out at that time!I agree with a lot of this, except again about the assumption about upgrading. I last upgraded at the beginning of 2007, so nearly 18 months, and can still more or less run newer games such as the Witcher, Gears of War, and STALKER on maximum settings. I currently have no money whatsoever, and have nothing to spend on upgrading, yet I will not require a new card for at least another 18 months, simply because current titles are mainly multi platform. This is restricing PC graphics, as titles are dumbed down for consoles. Only PC exclusives test my card, but they are usually so well optimized my system has no current problems whatsoever, and will not do for several years.
The only game that I cant run maxed out that is currently on the PC market is Crysis, and that is only becuase I dont use Vista so cant run it on full DirectX 10, I have to use a cheat config.
Upgrades are not needed every 6 months, PC games dont only run on the newest hardware available.
Fastest and expensive at 600$ huh ? You can get a eVGA Geforce 9800GTX SSC Edition for around 400$ on Amazon.Brilliantly put. I don't know where this guy has learnt that the best graphics cards are around "$1000". Where are you coming from? Either that is not USD, or you're outdated, because the fastest and most expensive graphics card is $600 USD! And again, why do you need to upgrade every six months? You say to keep up with the latest, but then again, why do you want the latest everytime unless you want to show off?
PES, extensive career mode that you can use a mouse to go through the menus with? :what Which PES have you been playing?

Huh? The 9800GX2 has double the power than the 9800GTX. And I was giving the example anyways. I don't think anyone needs anything over an 9600GT, 3870 or the 8800GT unless they own 24" displays anyways.Fastest and expensive at 600$ huh ? So it was actually Aussie dollars, just what I had guessed lol.Was talking about Madden moreso than PES there
I live in Australia... and the newest graphics cards cost anywhere up to $1000. The brand name ones, anyway. Also the fact I live in Perth means everything is about 10% dearer than anywhere else in Australia due to our "isolation." The most expensive card at the moment, at our premier computer store is 9800GX2, and it costs $899.
How come ? I saw its specs of 9800GX2 SSC Edition on eVGA website the core was of 675 Mhz but 9800GTX SSC Edition was clocked at 770 Mhz. Anyone can overclock that beast over 800 Mhz easily.Huh?
