PlayStation 4

I bet everyone will be buying the PS4 after like a year or two. Microsoft needs to release their news soon.

I think the word I'm seeing used a lot is "potential" and it seems like the exact same scenario around the time the PS3 hype came about, we had all the talk of what the machine could potentially do and how its specs gave it an advantage over the 360, which all turned out to be bollocks when the 360 tended to get the better end of the multi-platform deal.

All this rubbish that Sony and Microsoft are bringing about with regards to making their consoles "media hubs", invading the living room and other things on the subject of gearing their consoles more towards entertainment centres is concerning, the share button fiasco encapsulates this quite well.

However, hardware potential can only be fully utilised with great software, so hopefully we can see more new successes like the Uncharteds, the Dead Spaces, inFamous this time round.

How much further do you think consoles could improve spec wise without burning down houses or costing ridiculous amounts? Steambox looks like an interesting concept and cloud gaming could be the next big thing (:().

Well obviously the word you're seeing is potential, because it hasn't been released yet... But the difference this time is the 3rd party developers are all enthusing about how easy it is to code for. Last time it was Sony themselves saying how the cell was the new greatest thing since the sun. This time, it's the people who have had access to dev kits who have been saying it's awesome.

Hell, even John Carmack has been impressed. So far so good for the Ps4. There's a reason Microsoft have kept quiet for now, and that's because they need to figure out how they can match the Ps4 specs so late into the development process.

Yeah, the quotes about it being similar to PC architecture are promising. It will be interesting to see how much different of an alternative Microsoft can offer.

The rise of smart TVs could be an issue since both consoles are going down the entertainment hub route and these non-gaming social aspects are already built in to the TVs the consoles will be using, which is probably where Nintendo might have made an excellent decision with the Wii U's tablet and trying to take gaming away from the TV.

It's quite literally a turbo charged Pc. Numbers aren't everything. A V8 engine that's been tuned to do nothing but drive as fast as possible will be better than a bloated and poorly tuned V10.

The fact each component in the Ps4 is designed to do nothing other than game means it'll actually outperform what a standard PC with the same specs would. Obviously the top range PC will be more powerful, but not many games are actually designed for that because such a small percentage of people own one :p

Hopefully that means PS4 version games will be released on PC - specifically, Fifa.

Then again, if that's true, EA will wheel out the 'only 10% of people's PCs can run the game' BS. Which'll mean recycled Fifa 13 on PC for six years. :facepalm

They make their game pretty scaleable. So I would expect the same version on Pc to hit the PS4. Only differences is going to be what resolution it ouputs to and the FPS.

I really hope you're right, because I'm expecting great things from Fifa 14 'NG'. Although Fifa has been improving year on year, it hasn't looked like a completely new game: the on pitch visuals haven't changed a great deal over the past few years, and the front end is in dire need of work as well.

Fifa aside, the advent of the PS4 should be good news for PC gamers as well - for a few years at least, gaming won't be shackled to the speed of the slowest machines. ;)

Indeed. New consoles means gaming does move on to it's next cycle for the next 3-5 years.

Fifa won't nail it though, it's EA afterall and if they released the perfect football game how would they be able to charge full whack for the next one ;)

Playstation 4 coming with social features. Now why the feck would I want something like that in a machine. If I wanted to socialize I would not need to buy the thing in the first place.

Yeah it looks great :), I will be getting a PS4, I always buy a Playstation.:D
Sony are great.

Everything I'm reading points to the PS4 having very similar 'architecture' to a PC - even PC Gamer are touting it as good news for the PC. Do you guys reckon it's a step closer to a day when we can go out and buy WWE for the PS4, and have it work on our PC?
