Kenya vs West Indies, 3rd ODI

The third ODI nearly went very wrong indeed for the West Indians. As if not content with allowing Tony Suji to take three wickets virtually unchallenged, the West Indian bowlers suddenly found themselves quite unable to get Ravi Shah out. The opener has been in terrific form all series, top-scoring in every one of Kenya's three games, and this was obviously no exception. His stellar 137 put Kenya in a position where they might actually have overturned West Indies' 268. Thankfully for the visitors, Reon King was able to step up to the plate when it mattered and to end the right-hander's innings in the nick of time.

West Indies finish the series at 3-0, but what do they learn from this outing? Ricardo Powell has shown that when he gets going he is able to score very quickly indeed, but there remain question marks over his ability against world class bowling. Keith Hibbert did similarly, but as we all expect Ridley Jacobs to take the gloves back for, well, the rest of his career, how he gets back into the West Indies squad is pretty unclear. And as for the experiment of Ridley Jacobs as an ODI opener, that appears to be resoundingly over.

Sri Lanka Test Series selection meeting

Now we're going to be going to Sri Lanka, which will require a slightly different team balance to previous Test series. I'm sure we'll get to that in a minute. First of all, the RNGs.

Brian Lara Recovery RNG
1-30 - Lara fails a fitness test on the eve of the tour and must be replaced.
31-100 - He's good to go.

Brian Lara returns to Test cricket for the Sri Lanka tour! Unfortunately this leads to some difficulties with team selection. There are six players who really select themselves in the top six: Gayle, Lara, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Hooper and Samuels. But only one of them is an opener, so what will West Indies do about that?

Opening Batter RNG
1-40 - A specialist opening batter (probably Wavell Hinds) will retain his spot and someone else will be dropped.
41-60 - Chanderpaul is promoted to the top of the order.
61-80 - Sarwan is promoted to the top of the order.
81-90 - The captain takes responsibility; Hooper will open.
91-100 - Ridley Jacobs fills in as a makeshift option.

Shiv Chanderpaul will open the batting for the first time in Test cricket since 1998!

Ditto.

Neither of the Secret Events will happen this time.

Finally, it's time to see who the Chairman's Pick will be for this series:

Ryan Hinds gets a maiden Test call-up! He is one of two spin bowlers added, the other being the recalled Nehemiah Perry.

That gives us the following 18-man squad:
