Politics Discussion (India)

Modi at the helm +foreign trips meant people took India seriously /in a different light.

I cannot say the same for the Yogi though. He does seem heir apparent at the moment. Goven that the BJP doesn't really have any big names coming through, mentally prepare yourself for this.

Modi, Shah, Nadda, Gadkari and Yogi. The BJP does have a trump card in Scindia who could be potentially looked at, as a PM candidate (I'd prefer him anyday). Outliers in 10 years time could be the likes of Gambhir and Tejasvi Surya.
Is this the same BJP that always criticize opposition for not giving opportunities to others in the party and same people take up the leadership role?

Nadda is a proxy BJP president, currently the power lies with Amit Shah even though he is no more the BJP president. And then there is PM Modi who has already been CM for Gujarat for multiple terms and now two terms as PM. BS Yeddyurappa is trying very hard to position his son in Karnataka BJP after being CM, State BJP President and MP. Devendra Phadnavis is waiting to be the CM of Maharashtra again. Shivraj Singh Chauhan has already been at helm for past few decades in Madhya Pradesh. What I see is the hypocrisy at its best. Scindia family has been in politics for ages.

Nitin Gadkari is the best bet in terms of PM candidature. People have lost in most of the seats where Yogi campaigned in various elections. His failure is overshadowed by the Modi Wave and Shah's brain. He is not the half diplomat Modi is, and his ideologies are very much biased.

One important questions, will Modi go into the 'Margdarshak' committee after he touches 75+ age? Just as he and Amit made other senior BJP leaders to move out of active politics. He is already in committee as the PM Candidate but moving out of active politics is the question.

Before I begin this post, I would like to say I was a big BJP/NAMO fan during 2014 elections. I still support BJP/NAMO but at 90% less capacity. I support BJP/NAMO not because I am a gujju or I am a BHAKT as its called now a days, I support BJP/NAMO because there is no tweaking opposition in India.

I really hope for India's growth, we the people find a good opposition party. These congress, TMC, AAP's will not last long enough in front of the BJP think tank. Also yes I am serious. Eventually even Kerala and West Bengal will go into the BJP hands.

What I am completely against is blatant casteism and racism. While all of this existed in Indian society before 2014 (Hindi-Muslim, Dalit, etc), things are amplified 200x times since 2014. While the blam 90% lies with the ruling party of not controlling the narrative, the other 10% is really important. A democracy needs 2 pillars for it to stand on, the ruling party and an opposition who keeps them accountable. Congress lost 2014 because BJP being in opposition kept them accountable.

The narratives of the GANDHI's have to go, it is killing India while its destroying congress completely. Election after Election the Congress has been decimated completely. Rahul Gandhi should hang his head down in shame and should realize he is a nobody in this political world. Just because your belong to a political family does not mean you have that genes.

Today's result just prove that if people are 50% content, they will continue you or else you will be thrown out. AAP's big win in Punjab just shows that! I am no one to judge any ruling party but when I say Congress is really finished for good this time, it hurts as without a good opposition,BJP will continue to do whatever and however they want.

Remember, if this trend continues, only Modi can see Modi out.

An opinion I was reading sums up perfectly

If you want to know the real story of why the BJP keeps beating the Congress wherever they are in a direct confrontation (in this case, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur), credit the Gandhi siblings. Rahul Gandhi, former Congress President, and sister and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, have ensured that they are a dream Opposition for the BJP. Modi just needs to focus on Rahul Gandhi and half the battle is won. Unfortunately, this brutal reality is lost on the family which continues to lead the Congress. The party still squats on a nearly 20% vote share nationally, which is why its serial flops make a huge difference to how the Opposition performs.

Rahul Gandhi has led his party to two general election defeats and nearly lost all states where the Congress was once in a position of strength (it has a government in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, having lost Punjab today) but Gandhi only seems to fail upwards. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress President on paper, has shielded him from all flak. Rahul Gandhi had quit as party president in 2019 taking responsibility for the general election disaster, but he has refused to go away. Currently, he calls all the shots in the party with sibling Priyanka Gandhi, using mother Sonia Gandhi as a rubber stamp for the decisions they take based on a baffling inner circle of aides who have little experience in active politics.

Priyanka Gandhi, who the Congress once fondly described as a "Brahmastra" (ultimate weapon) has proven to be a dud, an underwhelming politician given to impetuous promises (will contest against Modi in Varanasi, be the Congress face of UP) who refused to move to Lucknow while running the UP campaign. Perhaps it's lucky for her that she did not take her own impetuous comments seriously because today she is left with a 2.5 percent vote share in UP, so imagine if she had been the Chief Ministerial face.

The Gandhi siblings have also managed to shaft their party in Punjab, sacking Captain Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister just four months before voting. Charanjit Singh Channi was made the new Chief Minister and the party went to town marvelling the "game-changer" move of promoting a Dalit leader to the top job for the first time in Punjab's story. Unfortunately, the man for whom Captain Amarinder Singh was sacrificed - Navjot Singh Sidhu - spent all his time campaigning against the Channi government. Both, Channi and Sidhu forgot they had to win an elections and were busy feuding - and not discretely either - over which of them would be the next Chief Minister.

The Gandhi's will make Virat Kohli look like a great tactician, this is how bad the 3 are. If they have any decency or ounce of self respect left, they should quit Congress and enjoy their permanent vacation in Noida and Italy. I cannot believe that Congress supporters are not revolting agains them already. So now we have a joker, a failed weapon and a dudster mom!

Being someone completely unaware about the political situation in the country.... Where do you think I should begin from? :p

because there is no tweaking opposition in India.
People should vote for someone else to create the opposition. I believe the cons of having BJP in power(the rise of casteism and all hate) outweighs not picking others because they don't look strong .
To be honest, I don't think BJP is gonna let anybody make a strong opposition, they have too much control in media where they change the narrative of the person.

It is exactly thinking like this is what is causing BJP to rise. Just because you do not work hard, I will blame the other guy playing politics while also working hard who rises to the top. :clap ! I will also blame the scholar who studies for everything while I sit and do nothing on me not getting good ranks :clap! Congress is both of them.

People should vote for someone else? Who? This is for leading a country and not the star of the class. Why should they vote for something that does not exist? As you can see people believed in AAP and they voted for AAP, people still like TMC so they voted them in WB.. so when that someone else exists, people are and might opt. Why will people vote for Congress or their allies when they themselves are not interested in anything.

Cons of BJP does not outweigh not picking others as OTHERS do not exist in this narrative. From a party who came into power back to back pre-2014 is now struggling for its own identity. This is not the fault of voters, this is the fault of CONGRESS supporters who still believe in the GANDHIS. Criminal!

Rahul Gandhi's we will learn from this sounds similar to Kohli's 15 minute play that lost us the match narrative :lol .

Devendra Phadnavis is waiting to be the CM of Maharashtra again

I hope he doesn't. In his 5 years, he destroyed the soul of cities like Mumbai and Pune and had his energies focused on Vidharba (separate states creation) and Nagpur. At present, no matter what others say, I have been impressed by Uddhav Thackerey's handling of the situation in the state.

I agree to a large extent on Gadkari. Gadkari might just be the PM face for 2024. Point to note is that he has a clean image, is seen as a crisis man and is one of the old-timers(circa Pramod Mahajan era). Everyone in the BJP likes him- even the oldies. If the national board cannot to a consensus, he will most likely be their face.

The 75+ age limit should apply. In effect, this will be applied to Ram Nath Kovid this year. By the same logic, Modi should be unable to take the seat in 2024. However, the worrying factor for me is that Amit Shah and Yogi are quite young(as opposed to their image). They are 57 and 49 years old which basically puts them in prime position post Modi.

However, as mentioned above, the RSS controls a major aspect of the BJP and their prominent faces. Hoping to see Mohan Bhagwat making waves in a couple of years time, as the BJP puts a face to their PM candidate.

This sums it up. There have been calls to change the leadership since the last few years. The longer the Gandhis cling on, the quicker the Congress will decimate further. The Congress has some good guys in their ranks. Sachin Pilot, Tharoor, Jayram Ramesh. Remember, most of the goons have already quit Congress. I hope they make a decent comeback- not cause I like them, cause the nation needs a proper opposition.

10th standard Civics text book. During my time, it used to have all these details :lol

See, this is possible at the state level. The likes of AAP, TMC, Patnaik's party have all gotten their respective leads in the states. However, when it comes to the national level, these guys don't stand a chance.

The likes of AAP started on a strong note. However, Kejriwal has simply turned his attention to New Delhi and not the rest of India. When he started, he had these massive campaigns pan-India and did gather a few followers even in cities like Bangalore. Need to sustain this in order to create a valuable opposition.

For me the political system in India is almost non-existent apart from BJP. And honestly I don't even like few of the things they promote. I am literally running away from politics but now I am coming into that age group where it is unavoidable for me.

Age has nothing to do with Politics. If you like to keep away, just keep away. Anyways there is nothing good about politics and we all deserve something positive and good in our lives. I used to be you 12 years ago (when I was 18). Got into Politics and started knowing things because of Anna Hazare and how every other day a new scam would surface. I was pretty vocal about it up until 2015 but since then I have not been taking active discussions. My beliefs are my beliefs, your beliefs are yours. Not everybody believes in this anymore.

But I also believe to have knowledge about your Country is equally important. Being a Commerce student I am more concerned about the Financial aspect.

Having knowledge and actively participating and getting involved are two different things. I can have knowledge of smoking weed but I do not have to participate in that. I can have knowledge of soccer but I do not participate in the sport.

Is it true? That that Gandhis offered their resignation and it wasn't accepted again? Sometimes it feels like it's just for a show.
