ZOMG IRIDIUM IS CHINESE TOO

I must come to New Zealand. Chinese people who know Cricket. This I have to see.

I'm actually putting an effort in to learn Cantonese now; gonna sign up for proper classes in the summer. It is a bitch of a language though.

:lol Calm down.

My Cantonese is pretty basic. I have to slide in a few English words to complete a sentence. I really want to learn Mandarin but it's so hard.

Do you guys play cricket? I want to play with Chinese people. And please tell me one of you both are a left-handed wristspinner, just for irony's sake?

Nope sorry, right arm medium. Although I don't really bowl 'cause I'm a keeper.

I don't play cricket but I wish I did. I only started liking cricket when I was about 15, and I still liked tennis so I played that in the summer instead (and I was pretty decent at it too)

I don't think I'd be too bad at cricket though. Got hand eye co-ordination from tennis to bat. And if I bowled it'd probably be off-spin (I've tried wrist-spin and the ball just goes everywhere...) because I kinda know how to do that properly :p

I played for my school but never joined a club. I did fill in for Weymouth for a match when they were a player short. Scored 40 from 55 so I was pretty pleased. I still go down to the nets with my, mates who are all bowlers which means heaps of time batting for me. In fact I just went down yesterday for a hit.

Batted at four for school. But our bowlers were super good so the openers usually scored the bulk of the runs.

We're just too cool

You know it :D

My problem is that none of my friends play cricket and that's why I'm a member of a whole heap of cricket forums so I can talk about it with people :p

Well to be honest, I have one friend who still plays a decent amount but he lives all the way out in Drury...

Stink :(

I saw that you joined Cricsim. I joined ages ago but they never seem to do anything except talk. IIRC, I'm in the Stingrays.

Yea I joined there. Much more laid back. It's really good for just talking about random things because everyone there is older than here. And their sims are pretty good. No swear filter, or restrictions on what you can post either :p Mark would probably like that. Though Jake just got banned over there so...

It kinda reminds me of a gaming forum I used to be a part of. I'd just talk about random things mostly. Lots of fun.

What's that sim they use? Internet Test Cricket? Something like that....

Yea I think so. It's an online version of the sim bcvs used in WWIII called International Test Cricket I believe. Lots of other sims as well, though things are running rather slowly at the moment I think.

They love their rugby league over there though.

On the subject of Rugby League, why do Rugby League fans/commentators call it the "great game"?

It always pisses me off, as it's how can it be a great game when only two countries play it seriously, football's obviously the "great game".

What about England? Don't they have the Super League? But I do agree with you about football. That's truly a great game because of its international appeal.

I guess you could (should) include England, but that's still only three countries.

It's not just a one off, most league commentator calls it the great game, so I was just wondering if there was an actual reason why they did.

They're passionate about the game so to them nothing else compares.

Well, it depends where you are. If you are in the North, League seems to be much bigger but if you are in the South there is no doubt that Union is the top dog.

went to town last night drinking

we started speaking to some man, and he claimed to have streaked at every major sporting event, the world cup, the ashes the superbowl etc.

we assumed it was just a drunken guy making stuff up.

but then we googled him. and he actually has. had a pint with possibly the most famous streaker in the world

What's the difference between League and Union?

Lol, too bad you didn't realize at the time. What a legend - it's not an easy achievement.
