Important points to note:-

1. Ganguly build a team from the core after India suffered from the match fixing scandal
2. Ganguly was the first ever Captain to achieve a draw in Australia since the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy
3. He wanted India to be a tough side and a side that was hard to beat and hence you see India drawing in Australia & England while South Africa were given a tough time in their own backyard.
4. After all this a series loss in New Zealand was absolutely acceptable. Because what he did was more than enough for the team.
5. Dhoni is one of the only 2 Indian Captains to win a Test series in New Zealand.
6. He was the first Indian Captain to achieve a series draw in South Africa.
7. He Captained a side that was under transition for majority of his career as Test Captain.
8. He was unfortunate to not have good fast bowlers in the team. I do agree that his obsession with spinners was one the reasons that hampered the team's progress but then again lack of quality fast bowlers in the country was a root cause of that.
9. The core of the current team is built from Dhoni's team comprising of Kohli himself, Pujara, Rahane, Jadeja, Ashwin, Ishant & Shami.

PAYTM trophy champion :p
Sorry to say but that sounded like a sheer disrespect to 2 of the greatest Indian Captains of all time. The sacrifices they made for the team are unmatched and deserves a lot of appreciation. Also let us not forget the time when these 2 Captains captained their teams the game was a lot more competitive and not as much result oriented as it is today. Dravid and Kumble were equally good Captains in their eras

Would really like @Bevab @SaiSrini @Bigby Wolf @abhi_jacko @LiveLoveABD @zwarrior @Aalay to have a look at this and add their own points to this post.

SENA means?

I haven't read the entire posts. I don't have the mood for it. If I am to compare the three captains then it's pretty simple-

Ganguly in tests. Dhoni in any white ball format. Kohli, just as a batsman. If we were to have a team representing planet cricket and we had the choice to make him captain, I would not be up for it. He is just not cut for it. He should just bat and if I made a T20 India team today, he wouldn't even feature in that.

Really not sure why someone tagged you, poor post (majority of your posting is) that adds nothing to discussion other than express your unwarranted dislike for Virat. If we made a PC team? Virat has the highest win percentage of all Indian captains in tests and only Punter and Waugh has a higher one! Ganguly had 5 or more world class batsmen at his disposal for most of his tenure, Virat has only himself as a mark batsman.

The living legend! The Indian MasterBlaster! Brilliant, talented and humble, the best captain of the present era!

That was just the most perfect statement!!!! I would say that Ganguly was close to MSD when we talk about white ball Cricket while Dhoni was a better Test Captain in Asian conditions when the pitches spun. I just find Dravid and Ganguly to be similar Captains in Tests with the only difference being the former being a lot calmer from the outset. Also Dhoni & Kumble had similar nature.
