Review Retail Version Impressions Thread

I don't think cricket is that complex to design as it's made out to be. Any sports games/simulators - be it soccer, basketball etc. - are tough to develop and cricket is no exception.

Have you guys ever tried playing MAdden NFL? Don't tell me it's any less complicated to develop than cricket. Bottom line is cricket fans on the whole are quite easily satisfied. If a similar product to Ashes Cricket 09 had been released for Soccer or Madden fans, the game would have got a rating of 3-4 and fans would have slated EA. And in Codies' case, Ashes Cricket is one of the best-sellers!!!

If its too easy would lowering your team's skills make it harder??

I'm sort of enjoying the batting side of things, despite it being too easy.

I play the game with house rules now when I'm batting. I only punish the bad balls and leave/defend everything else. It's a shame having to play the game in such a way but at least it stops me getting 15 rpo which is easily possible even on hard :(

I've given up with bowling as there's no way to prevent the AI playing ridiculously aggressively. Just so easy to get a side out for around 100-150 all the time. And that's with about 7 dropped catches! :facepalm

I think what I may do is just save the game after an innings and bat for the other team too so as to try and get a realistic score for both sides.

Ho hum, this could be such a lovely game with a little AI pacing patch and proper bowling lengths/speeds.

The ability to not see where the ball is going to pitch until the last second would also add to the difficulty of batting and make it a little more realistic.

Talking of patches? any word? It's gone ominously quiet

Hi guys,

Have been playing the game for abt 4-5 days. Overall I'd say the game has great potential but unfortunately the bugs in it are schoolboy bugs and thats the most frustrating thing.

For example
1) It could have been so easy to make the ball carry to the keeper and slips more often since its not a very special or tricky aspect to put in a game.

2)Batting of the AI particularly in tests. Its 20-20 after 2 wickets down. A problem which could have been so easily handled.

3)The crowd issues. Cant play with it turned on. Again, a flaw not been taken care of.

4)Batting a bit easy even on Hard. Though I dont really mind it since I dont exploit the game.

These and few minor other things(which PC has already solved to a good extent). The fact that these flaws are not even hard to pull off the game and that they werent in say, cric07 makes it more annoying.

Other than these bugs I think the game is still enjoyable atleast from time to time.

And oh yeah, keen to see a patch soon.

I'm still having realistic games so I think it's great.
You are one of the person who constantly sayiing that you have realisitc matches. Can you share us with your strategy like

Field placing
Bowling strategy
Did you edited the AI batsmen's skills?

When AI is batting, The one commentary line which is well suited to this game is

"These kind of shots will make fielding captain to tear his hair off"

Transmission has done good job on implementing this one piece of commentary in the game :p.

I used to have very realistic games but now everything has changed. I have no problem with batting i enjoy it even tho it is now occuring to me that hard really isnt that hard, i woud love to have another difficulty but this isnt a major problem in my eyes. I really enjoy bowling, but it ruins it with stupid run outs and to many catches and well overall they dont make a big enough target and i am costantly winning by an innings which is starting to get tedious. Anyone got any advise on how to place my field to maybe get a more realistic game cause i really dont want to have to simulate the aussies innings, but its getting to the point where i may have to.

I'm having a great match right now. Run rates have been around 7 rpo, so not realistic, but that's been the case for England and Australia, so I'm not too bothered. The upshot is, England need 470 to win and are currently 139/0. This is tense stuff!

How are you getting such realistic and fun matches, i just dont enjoy bowling cause i just bowl them out to quickly, but this probably wouldnt happen, its mainly due to the run outs, do you save after every over and wicket.

With batting im having no problem and do you know how to add attachment pictures i have them in my documents just dont know how to get them to attach just wont work do i have to upoad it to a sight first if so what sight is best?

I've been having problems uploading attachments here for ages, so I've given up! :laugh

OK. What I do is save at the beginning of every over (sometimes I forget of course, which is why I'd love a quicksave button) and after every wicket has fallen, so if I see something that is so obviously the AI runout bug, I reload. If it looks like an honest runout, I leave it alone. I also reload in the case of the 'fullball playing a backfoot hook' bug as well. I often have the AI batting for 50-80 overs. Not ideal, because it doesn't bring the new ball into play, but fun all the same. It's not exactly realistic because the rpo is around 7, but because it's for both teams, I don't mind too much. I rarely use spinners - they're broken as far as I'm concerned, which is a shame because spin is an important part of cricket.

Cool im gonna start to do this save at the beginning of overs annoying but worth it if it brings a better game into play.

The only way i can post pictures if its really big on the forum annoying but only thing i can do at the moment.
