Rooney is stretchered off at Stamford Bridge

Wayne Rooney could be out for six weeks after fracturing the fourth metatarsal on his right foot playing for Manchester United against Chelsea. He will be out for 6 weeks and englands first game is 6 weeks to this day!

Well if he doesn't make it, you've still got Crouch and Fowler :)!
YES, crouch and fowler ooo there as good as rooney aint they, wot u on about? :happy :boxing

Not only is it bad news for England, but for the World Cup as a whole. Surely, whichever team you want to win, you want to see the best players in the world playing. I'd be absolutely gutted if the likes of Ronaldinho, Messi, Riquelme, Henry etc got injured and missed the tournament.

On another note, will the likes of Nike and Adidas now look at the way they make these modern boots? The list of players from England alone who have broken a metatarsal over the past few years is amazing (Beckham, Rooney (twice), Neville, Gerrard, Owen, Parker, Cole etc). This has to be down to more than coincidence. I can't remember this injury cropping up so often 10-15 years or so ago.

Should the FA be considering this, they could end the season a little earlier by beggining it earlier whenever we have a big tournament at the end of the season.England are going to be struggling if both Rooney and Owen miss out.

I agree about the boots issue. It's also as if someone "up there" doesn't want us to win a major competition....

6 weeks out for the injury to heal.

6 weeks till our first game.

But he won't be playing minor a miracle.

Even if he can return for the knockout stages, its good enough for me.It seems that England are having the worst luck with injuries before the WC,last time it was Gerrard,Murphy and Neville. There are clouds over King,Owen and Rooney this time.
