Rugby 08: The USA Eagles Resurrection - Set to return?

Note: Before I start, you may have noticed the image quality has gone down somewhat. This is a known issue and should be sorted out for the second half.
4:11 - The Eagles with the ball now, in their own half. Holdenator passes it off to the centre Burnsy1 who makes a break through the Tongan defence and runs 20 metres. Pulled down by the fullback. Burnsy1 gives a well executed offload to Freddiw who spills the ball. Tonga got lucky there.
5:19 - USA with the ball again. Good momentum here... ooh! A dangerous tackle from the Tongan flanker gives the Eagles a penalty. Griffo says to kick for three points, 53 metres out.
5:39 - This will be a tough kick for Mad Snake. There is a slight breeze across field. He comes it, strucks it nicely, but will it have the distance. The answer is YES, just, Mad Snake maintains his 100% kicking record. 3-0 to USA.
9:42 - Tonga from the kick off have been hard on the attack, but unable to penetrate the flawless USA defence. They need to try something different. From the ruck now, Mertons passes to flyhalf Halo, who is in the pocket. He decides to go for the drop goal out in front, and misses just to the right of the posts.
15:12 - In the Tongan half, USA are charging the ball forwards. Advantage is given to the Eagles for offside. Play continues, but the referee decides to go back for the penalty. The captain again decides to go for the kick at goal. This kick is much easier, right in front 34 metres out. Mad Snake, as expected slots it beautifully over for another three points. The score is now 6-0 USA.
18:09 - Pressure on Tonga now. In their 22, USA lineout. Bell throws the ball in but fails to find Thesweepmaster, and is turned over. Halo with the clearance, but it's charged down by captain Griffo! Stanfill on the chase, picks up the ball, but it tackled out of play 3 metres from the Tongan's line.
21:00 - USA are looking for some magic. Passed from the ruck by Holdenator, to debutant Shevchenco, who taps it to Freddiw. He makes a run on the left side, running 10 metres, with support. He's tackled by the fullback, but manages to pass it to Mad Snake! He's got the legs, he'll go all the way! The flyhalf calmly dives over the line to make it 11-0.
21:47 - A simple kick from Mad Snake, left of the posts. He easily converts his own try to make the score 13-0.
30:27 - USA have had possession for a while now, but not making much of their ball. Slow from the ruck, passed by Holdenator, to Highlander999 who hasn't seen much ball so far. Passes to Burnsy1, to Freddiw, off the the captain Griffo. It looks like something could come from here. Griffo is tackled to the ground by the physical Tongan defence. No advantage, and the referee goes back for the earlier offside. Griffo again goes for the shot at goal, 50 metres out. Tonga have given too many penalties go far, and should improve their discipline or else someone may get sent off.
30:54 - Mad Snake with a tough looking kick. He comes it, strucks it nicely, but it seems to be curving to the right. Ball hits the right post, and manages to slip itself over for another three points. The score is now 16-0.
31:28 - What goes around comes around... Halo from the kick off, into the 22 and the ball is caught by Holdenator. He's tackled to the ground but Tonga is penalised for handling in the ruck. The referee goes over to flanker Afreakon, and shows him the yellow card! He'll be off for ten minutes, and someone pays for Tonga's lack of discipline. Afreakon won't be back until the second half.
33:29 - Tonga on looking for some points before halftime. Shefellover93, is looking for the charge down of a kick from the Tongan flyhalf, but is called for offside. The Tonga captain decides to go for three points.
33:59 - Halo is looking to put Tonga on the board. He's got a slight angle to deal with. He comes it and kicks to brilliantly between the uprights to make the score 16-3.
35:01 - The restart from Mad Snake is met by Mertons. He makes a little break here, stepping out winger Freddiw! He's still running, up to the halfway line. He makes a quick inside pass to team mate Halo, careful not to run into touch. He has no USA defenders in his sights, he should go all the way, and he does. Halo dives over the line for the try of the match. Halo has punished the Eagles defence to make it 16-8 USA with 14 men.
35:38 - Halo to convert his own try now. He kicks the simple conversion and closes the gap to six. The score is now 16-10 Eagles.
37:51 - USA deep into the Tongan's half. Mad Snake goes into the pocket. Holdenator passes from the ruck, over to the USA flyhalf. He kicks it poorly however and the score remains 16-10.
40:00 - The ball is kicked into touch by Burnsy1 and that's half time.
What an eventful first half! Penalties galore, and a sin bin. The referee won't be fooled around, and isn't scared to blow the whistle. After the sin binning of S.Afreakon, Tonga looked like a different side, clawing their way back to within six points. USA started their match brilliantly, but let it slip in the latter part of the first half. Both sides will be looking to improve their performances for the second half. Join us when we come back.

Yes, USA would be disappointed in letting the late try in, especially when Tonga had 14 men. We'll see what the Eagles can do in the second half later today.

Welcome back to the second half of the match between Tonga and USA. The first half was a great physical battle with both sides scoring a try a piece. We'll be wanting much of the same action in the second half.
40:00 - Substitutions for the Eagles at the break. Ayub 95 comes in for Highlander999 at inside centre, and M.French replaces M.MacDonald at prop.
43:04 - Tongan flanker S.Afreakon comes back on field after spending his ten minutes in the sin bin. The home side are now back to full strength.
51:00 - Much of the second half has been much of a territory battle with a lot of kicking. It seeming like a tennis match more than a rugby match.
55:24 - The Eagles now on the halfway line. Holdenator from the ruck, thinks about passing to Roofrom50 but goes left instead. Quick pass to Mad Snake, to captain Griffo, with the overlap to Burnsy1. The centre passes straight to Freddiw. He's found a gap and runs through it. He sprints through the defenders, but is stopped by the Tongan fullback Vek'u. But he's passed a no-look pass back to Burnsy1 who catches the ball successfully with pace. He should go all the way now! Burnsy1 cooly dives over the line for a try. The score is now 21-10 USA.
55:59 - More fresh legs come back on to the park with Gutterman replacing Mad Snake who has had another great game, and T.Clever comes in for M.Aylor at flanker. Ayub 95 will now take over the goal kicking.
56:21 - The conversion is a tough one. A challenging angle not to mention the wind. Ayub 95 comes in and kicks it neatly, but the ball curves away to the right, meaning the score remains 21-10.
65:39 - The great physical battle continues as debutant Shevchenco is penalised for a dangerous tackle on an opposition winger. He looks injured, and the medics come on to the field. Meanwhile Tonga have been on attack for a long time, with several breaks, but nothing seems to come of it. Te'ifuto looks to been okay now, and he'll continue playing.
68:48 - Tonga again on the attack in the USA 22. Mertons from the ruck to flyhalf Halo. Halo makes a brilliant grubber kick behind the Eagles line. Tonga run on to it, but Roofrom50 safely dives on the ball before any of the Tongans to secure a 22 drop out.
69:21 - The final substitutions in for USA. Shevchenco comes off for H.Mexted who has a decent debut. Mexted swaps posititon with Stanfill to his preferred position at lock. Captain Griffo is subbed off for M.Mangan who's had a somewhat quiet match. And at fullback Shefellover93 is replaced with Adyhorn. Holdenator will take over captaincy.
72:27 - A knock-on from Mexted puts USA again under pressure. Tonga attacking in the 22. Mertons to Halo, breaks out of a tackle but it brought down by Adyhorn. Passed out to the fullback Vek'u, but it forced by with a brilliant crunching tackle from the Eagles prop Osentowski, and he secures the turnover. USA got away with that one.
75:45 - Again a mistake at the line out by Thesweepmaster means Tonga have another attacking opportunity. The home side have momentum now. From the ruck, only ten metres out. Mertons from the ruck, over to lock Luta. A quick pass to Fauna who looks to charge through the defence of the opposition. But it's not to be as Burnsy1 shows a tremendous display of defence with a try saving diving tackle to win a turn over five metres from their own line.
77:00 - At the line out, 25 metres out. Hooker A.Latui finds Luta at the back. He gives a throw down to Mertons. He makes a long pass over to Ngusmo. The centre makes a dash and throws an inside pass to the inside centre. Hufnanna breaks out of a tackle, then other. He's only got the fullback Adyhorn to go. He sidesteps him, and fends him away! He goes all the way and S.Hufnanna closes the gap. 21-15 USA.
77:27 - Halo now has a crutial goal kick. Fairly simple and slots it over for two further points. The gap in very close, one more try for either team should do it. 21-17 Eagles, and the last two and a half minutes should be very interesting.
