Russia to host the 2018 World Cup

Sorry, I'm just hogging all the whining with my own sad stories.

Absolute tweaking disgrace England didn't get the World Cup. I wasn't that upset when Russia was called out, now I think about it, it's a joke. England deserve a World Cup, no doubt.

And if the Birmingham vs Villa altercation changed minds, then FIFA members need to pull their heads out and look at the ORGANISED fights hooligans have in Russia.

Hmmm. Indeed.

The thing that annoys me, is I know that before we get another chance in 2030, Germany would've had it again (three times since 1966 that would be), France would (twice since 1966 if it happens) and Spain would (twice since 1966 again).

One other thing - does Russia ever have any kind of summer? Wasn't it shortly after July 1941 that the Nazi tanks were drowning in mud?

Hand on heart, if Spain/Portugal had got it, I wouldn't be anywhere near as angry. They have the stadiums, the footballing success and the passion for football. Russia has none of the above.

I agree with you. I honestly don't know what England needs to do to get the cup. You have everything, the fans, the stadiums, the locations etc. You are a fantastic football nation and I seriously can't wait to visit England for a football holiday and if I see what I like, move over there for good.

South Africa/Brazil/Russia/Qatar.

FIFA are getting cocky.

Ian Wright was making a joke about sending people like Cheryl Cole to 'convince' Fifa! :lol

Would you say no?

'And all you have to do, Mr Voter, is vote England...'

Russia does have a summer. There was a heatwave there this summer. It was "the worst drought in nearly 40 years and the deaths of at least 9 million hectares of crop".

England should have won though. It's been too long and they have everything you could ask for.

As for Qatar, air conditioning? Are they stupid? Players will die out there (not literally, just be insanely fatigued). I can guarantee that teams will be calling for more substitutes to be allowed, at the very least. I think that the World Cup has to be held in the summer off season so that is just silly. Countries like that should not even be allowed to bid. It's unfortunate but the conditions are such that it's just inhumane to make (at the very least) 8 out of 11 players out there for 90 minutes.

I'm disgusted.

This was the timeline of events watching live.

Hour before ceremony: Al-Jazera report Qatar have won the 2022 world cup.
30 minutes before ceremony: Report that England had been knocked out in the first round
20 minutes before: Reports Russia have won, and Qatar officials hugging and congratulating. Australia apparently knocked out in the first round aswell

DISGRACE. I was praying England and Australia would win as we would both hold amazing tournaments, but it turns out money and corruption are really what makes the world turn rounf

England DESERVE it. Bringing the World Cup to Australia would of done amazing things for football in this country, now it will die. Nice going FIFA, since in their vision they state "promoting" the game is one of their main goals.

Also on Qatar. You can't drink any alcohol, they just had their hottest day of 50 odd degrees, and you will be thrown in jail if you show any road rage, a little over a million people in population, and they have ONE airport in the entire country, and most importantly THERES NOTHING TO DO!!!

lulz

Qatar 2022

"It is a punishable offense to drink alcohol or be drunk in public. Offenders may incur a prison sentence or deportation. Alcohol is, however, available at licensed hotel restaurants and bars, and expatriates living in Qatar can obtain alcohol on a permit system. You should not carry alcohol with you, including in your car (except to take it on the day of collection from the warehouse to your home).

You should dress modestly when in public, including whilst driving. Women should cover their shoulders and avoid wearing short skirts. You should behave courteously at all times. Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest.

Homosexual behaviour is illegal in Qatar."

Fun world cup.... thanks fifa - corrupt assholes

Riiight, so they expect people used to wearing short clothes in 28 degrees to cover up in 40 or 50 degree heat? Fifa are the biggest idiots in the history of the World, if not the Universe. And if there was a Universe before this one, they're the biggest idiots in the history of that as well.

Does Qatar even like football???

.

OK, I stand corrected. Doesn't help with the other issues though.

Edit: @Stevo - this WC would be what the Aussies need - right now, you're on the cusp of becoming a respectable side. Dunno what this will do to football down under.

Whats the only thing more annoying than vuvuzelas? forcing all the women to wear burqas

Media knew it thirty minutes before it was announced too. This is a disgrace. 2018 and 2022. I'm furious and there's nothing anyone can do. Argggggghh.

There was certainly lack of professionalism in the way they handle that situation.

About Russia hosting the 2018 World Cup, are they planning to expand their current stadiums or build some new ones? Pretty sure they would right? From what I've just checked, the biggest stadium is the Luzhniki Stadium with a capacity of 78 360 and the second biggest capacity is only 36 000+. What a huge difference in that!
