Russia to host the 2018 World Cup

If we can host a better tournament now, it stands to reason that had our bid been successful, we would have an even better tournament in eight years. :rolleyes

As to 'how the world cup will be organised twelve years from now', it's not me going on about changing when it will be held, it's Fifa. As for whether or not most people would be happy with an entire month out of the league calendar to accommodate Qatar's world cup, I think you'll find most of the world would be against it. Having a fortnight's winter break is one thing, having it extended to a whole month is something else entirely. It'll play havoc with the fixtures and the breaks between seasons. With the world cup taking up a whole month in January, the league season won't be finished until mid June or something like that - it's ridiculous.

Ill just leave it at this since its getting a bit pointless to repeat the same thing. Its 8 and 12 years away. The whole tweaking world could end by then and you are trying to tell me that it can mess up a leagues schedule, wow.

I'm looking forward to the Qatar one, Probably be half empty stadiums and lots of foreign fans being arrested for drinking or wearing half sleeves :lol

Maybe they will cut off Rooneys hand for stealing a pass

So it's more likely that the world would've ended by then? Don't tell me, you're one of these who believe in this 2012 nonsense? Here I am talking about something ordinary like football, and you're going on about the end of the world? :rolleyes

The fact is, right now we have a better all round infrastructure and better stadiums than Russia (as do Spain/Portugal) - it's highly unlikely that they would've matched us by 2018, let alone surpassed us. I think I'll leave it as well since we're never going to agree on this. England's bid was the best of the lot - anyone who knows football and the World Cup knows that. And if it wasn't the best, then Spain/Portugal was - followed by Holland/Belgium. I would've put Russia last. Don't they regularly have organised hooliganism there? That's not the case here any more - sure it was a real issue in the 70s/80s, but right now it's much more of an issue in Russia than it is here.

It'll be a shambles of a World Cup, I have no doubt of that. Even though Fifa are seriously considering holding it in the winter - will that make much of a difference - does Qatar even have a winter? ;)

WOW I guess I got to spell ████ out. I was referring to how much time there is until the World Cups start, so many things can happen in between that complaining about things 12 years from now is absolutely crazy.
Here I am trying to explain to you that so many things can happen from now until the World Cups start and you cant even get that and you start talking about some 2012 ████. Really?

Fact is nobody is arguing that England doesn't have better infrastructure now but Russia has 8 years to build things required to host a world cup. Russia is not some backward country, they got the means to make this competition a successful one.

Was it really? Since it didn't get you the WC I guess it wasn't. If you really wanted to host a world cup then maybe you should have bid a little better for the one in 4 years. Having not had the world cup for some 40 years don't you think England is doing something wrong? Ever thought that might be the problem?

And if it wasn't the best, then Spain/Portugal was - followed by Holland/Belgium. I would've put Russia last. Don't they regularly have organised hooliganism there? Good for you. Obviously the people that actually counted for the votes thought otherwise and rightfully so.

BTW Hooliganism is not and issue in Russia alone. Things like that can be dealt with otherwise Poland and Ukraine wouldn't have gotten Euro 2012.

Would have to fully agree with Master Blaster in that argument.

Just to bump this again. I was reading the BBC and came across; BBC - David Bond: Blatter expects winter World Cup in 2022. Now nothing against the article at all, the beef is with blatter who produces these two gems for me;

"Personally, now that the decision has been taken, we must play at the most adequate period to have a successful World Cup and to have a successful World Cup we have to do it when it is best for the actors which means winter."

"I expect it (to be in winter) because when you play football you have to protect the actors."

I'm sorry, but why the hell is he calling them 'actors'? If I was a professional football right now and I was being called an 'actor', unless I was Cristiano I would be livid. They're sport professionals not bloudy actors. He really really needs to go.

Those quotes from Blatter are laughable. I can't believe he would say that.

Sorry to bring it up again. But I believe England had the best bid. They deserved it the most, haven't had a World Cup since 1966 for goodness sake! I would of backed them to win.

Because of Qatar's victory, I believe it has taken the pressure off England not winning, more so in Australia. I feel so sorry for England. I'm not heaps disappointed about Australia not getting it but I know we could put on exceptionally safer tournament. We wouldn't have to shift the time of the tournament just so players would pass out during play!

Actors??? As you said, the man is clueless - a footballer is no more an actor than I - an actor - am a footballer! Unless he becomes one, like Vinnie Jones and Cantona.

Precisely. My views especially on the Qatar choice have been vindicated - look at all the fuss it's going to cause. Football managers have already begun voicing their disagreement with moving the World Cup to the winter. The World Cup has never been moved before to my knowledge, so why start now? If it's too hot, give it to someone else, don't go shifting the damn tournament!

As we've already said though, we all know why those two countries got the nod - and it has sod all to do with the quality of their bids. ;)

The thing that confuses me with England is that they are the perfect nation to host a World Cup (bar the stereotypical hooligans) and could probably host one tomorrow. You have about a million stadiums (:p) and your country loves football. It also wouldn't be 50+ degrees when games would be played.

I'd love to see England host a World Cup. I think it's quite a sad thing when it comes to this

When it comes to hooliganism these days, Russia has got a much bigger problem than us. We used to have it really bad in the 70s, 80s and maybe the early 90s, but by and large these days, it's down to isolated incidents.

As to Qatar and all their killjoy rules - it's going to be a barrel of laughs, that World Cup. Not to mention screwing up the entire season, as Fifa seem to be backing the nonsensical idea of a January World Cup. Whoever heard of such a thing?? The World Cup is a Summer event - not for a time when a large chunk of the football loving world (Europe, in other words) will be in deep midwinter!

What makes this more bizzare? Qatar is hosting the Asian Cup now and it has been moved to January. So FIFA already knows that Qatar will do this. That is disgraceful! I don't think they'll play it at the traditional time.

The latest I heard from Fifa is that they're thinking of leaving it as a summer World Cup. Good luck with that. :noway

FIFA just can't make up their mind about when to host World Cup in Qatar at the moment. :facepalm
