SA Redbacks State Season 2006-07.

The Redbacks have not been one of the most succesfull teams now-a-days. Having managed their last Pura Cup Final win in the state season 1986-87, their last Ford Ranger Cup final win in the state season 1995-96 and have not been able to register a final win in the KFC Twenty Twenty Big Bash in the two years it has been running.

The bookies are also showing that the RedBacks are in for another year of dissapointment.

So now the SA RedBacks enter the season predicted to be easy-beats. The Redbacks are out to prove the punters wrong, led by captain Darren Leahmann and coach Wayne Phillips.

Good luck with the story mate, go the Redbacks even tho Victoria are gunna win the State Season :p Looking 4ward to it

Leahmann steps down

Former SA Redbacks captain Darren Leahmann has stepped down from the captaincy role. The thirty seven year old he said he made the decision by himself and thought that he was getting a bit to old and wanted to relinquish the expectation of being captain and letting another younger guy having ago. Leahmann quoted from his press confrence 'I'm getting old I can't play Cricket forever, the club will be better of if they found a new captain now rather then me staying captain untill I retire that would leave a big gap, this way I can aide the new captain.' Leahmann will still continue to play Cricket with his SA Redbacks. Later on today the new leadership group was announced. Twenty three year old Mark Crosgrove was named captain, Darren Leahmann remained in the leadership group being Vice captain with Jason Gillespi being his deputy.

looks good mate - i'm a massive redbacks fan but have been dissaponted in current form- good luck

Redbacks name team

The SA Redbacks have named their eleven man team to face against New South Wales in the one day game.

1. S.Deitz OBT
2. M.Elliot OBT
3. D.Leahmann BATT vc
4. G.Blewett BATT
5. M.Cosgrove BATT c
6. N.Adcock BATT
7. C.Borgas WK
8. J.Gillespie OBW
9. D.Cullen SBW
10. P.Rofe BWL
11. S.Tait OBW

The only real surprise selections are C.Borgas being named WK and N.Adcock getting a spot in the side. When Wayne Phillips was asked why they were turning C.Borgas from a regular fielder to a WK he said 'He has great catching abbility and it's a risk that may pay of big time.'

Same old story

The SA Redbacks were outplayed, outskilled and outkast as they got downed by a strong NSW outfit that won by a comfortable 37 runs. New South Wales never really look threatened by the Redbacks in the game.Three players scored over thirty, one over twenty, one over forty and Jaques topping the scorers list with a score of seventy eight of a hundred and three balls. S.Deitz made a handy thirty six, D.Leahmann made an average twenty seven, G.Blewett made a quick forty five of twenty six balls, M.Elliot was the shining light for the Redbacks with sixty three of ninety four and the rest of the wickets quickly crumbled. The redbacks were just to slow and sloppy. S.Clark and M.Creed both snared three wickets 3/34 of two point five overs and 3/32 of four overs, while N.Adcock and D.Leahmann done the same only more expensively 3/75 and 3/33 of ten overs each.

When the coach was asked by the performance of his players he replied 'We played absolutely rubbish, they have one more chance to redeem themselves or else there'll be some major changes in the team line up.'
