Scotland's push for promotion to the National League Division One continued with a highly impressive win over Lancashire:

Saltires polish off Lightning

National League D2, Old Trafford: Scotland 192-8 beat Lancashire 151 by 41 runs
Match scorecard
The Scottish Saltires have recorded their third and most impressive win yet in their debut season in the National League.

They were playing an under-strength but still strong Lancashire side which contained Aussie star Stuart Law and former West Indies captain Carl Hooper.

And this win means they must be regarded as serious contenders for promotion with Rahul Dravid yet to join up with the team.

Batting first, Scotland's score was built around half-centuries from Greig Williamson and the wicket-keeper Colin Smith. Both men made 60.

In reply, Lancashire were crusing at 61-1 early on. But the loss of Mal Loye (38) proved critical.

Captain Craig Wright had Stuart Law stumped for 12 and finished with brilliant figures of 3-27 while Hooper was run out for just two.

Peter Martin (29 not out) swung the bat gamely at the death but it was all too little too late as Ryan Watson had the final say, trapping John Wood lbw for four.

Watson finished with figures of 3-11 from 4.1 overs.

I'm sorry, it was just unexpected. I thought it deserved a thread of its own. I'll change my signature back.

In all seriousness I think Scotland have actually been the best team in Divsion 2 so far. It'll look pretty stupid if they get promoted to Divsion 1 and yet still have to go through the preliminary rounds of the C+G Trophy.

I think next season, or the one after that, the ECB should bring in one of the minor counties (or Ireland) to make it 10 in each divsion.
