Second Round - Italy vs Australia

Although I agree it wasn't a penalty. Australia made a couple of mistakes which cost them. They didn't go for it when Italy were down to 10. You have to push more men up and put pressure on the other team. And secondly, why did Lucas Neil go to ground? Why? Probably the most stupid thing he could have done.

Cutting Italia down to 10 was a bad decision as well. This is supposed to be the most popular sport in the world but yet a referee with 20/20 vision can't be found. I couldn't be more dirty right now.

Credit where due, Italy's defence was that good. It was impossible for us to get through with our attack. Others will struggle to score against them as they were very organised.

You couldn't be more dirty right now? Lucas Neil was an idiot. You learn as a kid to only go to ground if it's your last option. Wasn't a penalty for me. The guy could have jumped over Neil.

what about the handball in the box???? that wasnt paid, credits to the ref though, bloody hard to see but it was still there. That made us even for the red card.

otherwise, one word comes to all australians minds... ROBBED (or disgraceful)

That ref will never visit Australia again.

I could say what i really think but i may get banned since the word 'poo' could get you in trouble on here:)

Point taken but Neil is an awesome slide tackler who has come up with some rippers. I guess it finally caught up with him because from what i've seen nobody jumps over a tackle in soccer then just fall and act hurt. Italy did defend well all match but i dont think they deserved to win it especially like that.

I'll admit that red card wasn't one but it didn't cost Italy the game. They stopped attacking but defence was the same. Should have gone down to the penalty shoot out.

it looks like italy will be in the semis. they should beat either ukraine or switzerland

lol my thoughts exactly, im saving my thoughts for msn

In retrospect, this was a perfect way for australia to be eliminated, in complete controversy. That way all australians can talk about "what could of been" For all we know, we could of beaten ukraine/switzerland and made the final 4!! but who knows. The only thing thats for sure is that not one single aussie will accept that we lost today, it was a robbery and justice was not served.

Im looking forward for the whinge backlash :D

In all honesty this match should of gone to Extra Time, Zambrotta dived the referee gave the Penalty. In all honesty I think it's cruel and unfair, but Australlia played well and deserve to get even further in 2010. Look towards the future I say!

Yup they shouldn't...it wasn't a penalty but a dive...the aussie player completley missed his legs and he just fell over...Socceros were very impressive and in my opinion should have won it...

In the Second-Half yes, but in the First-Half, Italy did deserve the lead.

Italy looked more threatening when they attacked the goal. Australia had a lot of possession but to me it looked like they didn't know what to do once the ball was in the penalty box
