Draft: Selection: Impossible

:wi: :bwl: LANCE GIBBS

I realise I've left it a long time without picking my spinner. I knew from the start that with only four realistic bowling options it would have to be someone who could bowl long, tireless spells, and for that task there was only ever one man in mind: West Indies' Lance Gibbs. The tall off-spinner took 309 wickets from his 79 Tests at an average of 29.09 - part of over 1,000 first-class wickets - but most importantly of all he bowled long spells. With a career economy of just 1.98, he could be trusted to do so, and he bowled the equivalent of 40 or more six-ball overs in no fewer than 45 Test innings. What a player, and a perfect fit for my team.

@icyman

(I intend to update the index this evening - I hope this doesn't cause difficulties for anyone)

Now I'm a bit slow on this, but I've just seen that @icyman is currently away for health reasons. As a result, I'm going to make some picks to round out his team, which he will have the option of changing at his convenience if he becomes available before draft's end.

Icyman's XI so far:
  1. :eng: :bat: Jack Hobbs
  2. :aus: :bat: Herbie Collins
  3. :wi: :bat: George Headley

  4. :wi: :ar: Frank Worrell

  5. :eng: :wk: Godfrey Evans
  6. :aus: :ar: Richie Benaud
  7. :eng: :bwl: Harold Larwood

Pick 1: :eng: :bat: Ken Barrington - one of the all-time great stonewallers, Ken Barrington might just be the correct answer to the question "which one player would you pick to bat for your life?"

Pick 2: :wi: :bwl: Joel Garner - an excellent fast bowler who excelled when the batters were trying to score. Very able to create wickets out of nothing, his sheer excellence going somewhat forgotten due to his part in an entire attack of great bowlers.

Pick 3: :wi: :bwl: Curtly Ambrose - Garner's natural successor, and arguably an improvement on the original.

Pick 4: :aus: :ar: Darren Lehmann - often overlooked due to his presence amongst one of the great Test teams, Lehmann lends some excellent balance to this team by batting right down in the engine room. His left-arm darts also proved very effective in all formats.

Complete XI:
  1. :eng: :bat: Jack Hobbs
  2. :aus: :bat: Herbie Collins
  3. :wi: :bat: George Headley
  4. :eng: :bat: Ken Barrington
  5. :wi: :ar: Frank Worrell
  6. :aus: :ar: Darren Lehmann
  7. :eng: :wk: Godfrey Evans
  8. :aus: :ar: Richie Benaud
  9. :eng: :bwl: Harold Larwood
  10. :wi: :bwl: Curtly Ambrose
  11. :wi: :bwl: Joel Garner
Once again, we all hope that Icyman's health picks up and he's able to change any of these picks if he wants to.

Until that time, @CerealKiller is up.

Apart from Kallis, i have picked quite an enterprising batting lineup, so let me add some solidity in the form of Alastair Cook.

@Viper.

Was wondering when you would make this pick. :D

I’ll pick in few hours don’t skip me

To round up my bowling completely now, with 2 spinners and 2 pacers already, I will be adding another quick- a man who recently retired. A red ball specialist throughout his career and one of the best ones to come out of that nation in the last few years too-

Neil Wagner comes into the lineup as the final bowling option and the 3rd pacer to assist legendary Wasim Akram and Chaminda Vaas. Was about to say another left arm pace option, until I realized. He has 260 test wickets in 62 matches at an average of 27.57. He has 821 overall first class wickets and has also had a decent domestic white ball career consisting of 202 games and 271 wickets.
