Shane Bond Retires from Tests

Sad news indeed, I was preying he would make it to the Aussie's series tbh and then retire. I shudder at the thought of our bowling attack when they arrive in Feburary though:

Darryl Tuffey (Ewww)
Chris Martin (Steady, but is very rarely threatening)
Tim Southee (Seems to have improved his fitness issues but has played very little test cricket)

Northern Districts Brent Arnel and Trent Boult would surely come into mind now, Hammish Bennett perhaps also.

Very sad news and a big loss for NZ after losing O'Brien and a similar decision by Oram to quit test cricket. He never eally reached his full potential but he did show glimpses of it and he is still arguably the second best paceman NZ have produced (after Hadlee).

It's also a shame that a bowler with such good talent never really played much tests as he could have.

What a ball at 1:09, great vid. Suprised that caught and bowled vs AUS wasnt there

Also Chris Martin probably will not be around that long himself

One of the great modern day fast bowler retiring from test cricket after playing only 17 tests, that is a very sad news for test cricket and all the cricket lovers. :crying

I reckon Martin will call it a day after the Australia series.

So much for that depth of bowling we had built up. :facepalm

We gained 2 for a few months and now 2 are gone. Haha. Sucks.

There's lots of guys doing well in domestic. But they all seem doemstic rate bowlers at their 130km pace. Not threatening enough for international cricket?

O'Brien really screwed NZ over, just when he was looking to becoming a quality bowler, hitting the right length and getting up to 144 he opts for a county contract. In a way I lost a bit of respect for him , but I can understand why he did what he did. Perhaps he should have just stayed in NZ and tried to get an IPL contract. With that money his wife could afford to move to NZ and get a moderate job there, its not as if she is the CEO of Virgin in England.

I'm sure he would've broken so much bowling records if we'd stayed on....just 17 tests?! Thats disappointing... :(

Yeah that's pretty much spot on tbh:

Cricket Records | Plunket Shield, 2009/10 | Records | Most wickets | Cricinfo.com

The only bowler in that top five that would be international standard now is Brent Arnel. Hamish Bennett and Trent Boult both have very good records this year but have played very little cricket.

Is anyone else just a bit frightened that Ewen Thompson is at the top of that list?

I mean if they can pick McIntosh without seeing how bad his technique is whats stopping them picking that useless hack.

doesnt he bowl 115kph on a good day :laugh

Liked the guy. Used to watch his segments on Headlines Today. Very decent chap and an awesome bowler. A true gentleman.

I hope he plays in my part of the world a bit more so that people here can see the genius that the guy is.

SALUT!
