Yeah, in Pakistan (don't know about India). All your mum wants you to be is a engineer, doctor, or in the army, like wtf? innit.

"Mom, I want to become a Crickter"

"NO!, Your Cousin is a Doctor, You other Cousin is a Dentist, Your Uncle is an Engineer and your Older Brother is doing a Scholarship in America!"

...Yeah, Its all throughout Asia I think.

ohh yeah man

"You know Mr. Ahmed, his son is doing last year of college, he has taken all the responsibility, bla bla".

How does it matter what language you speak. Even in other sports, the French, Spanish, Italian, South Americans, East Europeans, often speak in their own language which is then translated if required. But then they do eventually learn to speak English if they became a global icon. That is because English is afterall an universal language now. Even though French and Spanish are more correct and consistent in their script and grammar.

True this is what happens in the sub continent... People think becoming a cricketer is like becoming a mafia or something...

yeah but, the crappy cricketers of ours have given bad image of sportsman and how they live to the people, and ofcorse your mum doesn't want you drunk, hangin' out in a night club with a chick, unless or otherwise.

I know it's ignorant of the people to think that every cricketer is same sh*t, but you can't fully blame the people if they think that way.

Yeah but there are also decent cricketers in sub continent... only bad boys are akhtar and asif...:p

I don't think Asif is a bad guy, he's just brought up into all this by some bad company (not shoaib), as he's just a uneducated guy who suddenly became an star icon, and PCB didn't handle him well.

Well he made a comeback after the WC07 after getting banned for 2 years for taking drugs, but looks like he will keep on repeating the same mistakes... I can see his future turning out to be really dark...

Well its even more restrictive than that... unless you're doing the RIGHT discipline, you are wasting your life. Ph.D candidate = med school to indian families... try to explain to them that an MD and a PhD are different, and they look at you like you are from mars.

Honestly I see little benefit to the team, or country in general, I mean it would be good for the field of play that you are batting and words are going around, say from Captain to bowler as to how to bowl to you and you could pick that up, but the same could be said for are batsman from Aus, SA, Eng, NZ, WI batting in Ind, Pak, Bang, so I see it as nothing major, if one knows it then its a plus for that person as an individual.
To step slightly away from the topic, look at the soccer players in the world, some of the biggest names in that sport, making the most money in sport, speaks no English, so it is apparent that it has little weighting on one financial gain, then again if they all spoke English translators would be out of a job :p
