I say that after a cricket match, weather we win or lose, if a player who doesn't know english comes up for the presentation, it really embarrasses me. Lets just take Inzamam as an example...He played International cricket for 15 looong years and still didn't know proper English. They should really know atleast basic English if not complete English.
Inzamam can speak English now.

Does many interviews for Dawn News (English channel based in Pakistan)

I guess Inzamam never had any time during his playing career to learn English, but he has learned now (well better than Boyz did well, Boyz effortz)

why the hell would you feel the embarrassment?

Because they are playing at international level. They ain't playing Gully cricket or something...Except Pakistan and Bangladesh, I don't think there is any team with most of their players who can't speak proper English.

Why is it embarassing that a player can't speak English Rameez?

Conversely, isn't it embarassing when the English or South African teams come to Pakistan and can't speak Urdu?

Also, 11 people can never represent the whole country, they can just never.

Is Urdu and international language?? No. Its nowhere close to being an international language. You probably don't know this...but I moved to Canada last year and I am shocked that even alot of Pakistani people there don't know Urdu. So how do you expect South Africans and English players to know Urdu??

Well..they do represent the country at international level don't they??

they are not representing because of language. .like they are scholars. sports has no language criteria to qualify. it is all an individuals choice if he wants to learn any other language or not. any individual should know his or her mothers tongue or national language.. other languages are optional.

it is really shocking to write that . .it embarrasses you. .shocking mentality tbh.

They are bunch of guys who got lucky and had a chance to play for their country at that level. They get paid for what they do. IMO playing cricket at International level isn't exactly "representing" a country.

Like they don't know english doesn't mean the whole country doesn't know it. just a example.

They are "representing" nothing, they are simply getting paid to play well for thier national team, good money.

@ usy

ofcourse it is a job, you can look at it at just doing a job for which they are being paid or represending a nation or whatever. i meant, whatever job they are doing that job didn't had eligibility criteria of being fluent in english or any language.

sorry but they are paid for playing good Cricket and not representing anything.

They are playing cricket for their country which means they are represending their country.

11 cricket players "represending" the whole nation of 169,300,000 people, not.

Some Pakistani don't even know who is the current president of Pakistan never mind cricketers, and how can they repersent the whole nation?

It's not your thing to understand this...forget it...

It's an advantage in relation to journalism amongst the English speaking countries. Plus, if they wanted to further their career in State, Country or Provincial cricket. It's not essential though, imo.

Rameez, it's a shame that you think it's embarassing because frankly, I don't get embarassed when Praveen Kumar can't speak English. Why do you look at that only that side of the story? They represented their country, and made their country proud as well by winning various trophies, and that's how they'll be remembered. Thirty years down the line, nobody will remember Inzamam for his English, nobody will even remember Pietersen (assuming he goes on to be one of the greats, he's already pretty close) for his English. One isn't fluent, the other is but when all things are said and done, they'll be remembered for their cricketing ability and what they did in that 40 over, 100 over or 5 day period over a substantial amount of time
