I gotta say, We're better off without Hilf. From what i saw he was either bowling on the pads, bowling short, or bowling it wide.

What another painfully boring South African innings. I passed out by the time both openers were in the 20's. It's like they don't even want to win games, just go around playing draws and only beating teams like NZ, WI, Bangladesh and England.

^^ Exactly, the groundsman put the lines in the wrong place. :D

What do you expect them to do when they're chasing 550 on a pitch that does nothing? It's not like they have a hope of knocking Australia over cheaply, even if they do score 600 in 100 overs or whatever you're suggesting.

Hilf was too short with the new ball, I'll agree and is the least penetrating of the pace trio. But still I'd much rather see him bowling than Quiney/Hussey - how they got 3 overs yesterday in only our 2nd session of bowling staggers me. Pattinson bowled only 8 overs: Warner, Quiney and Hussey bowled the same between them  Pattinson was the bowler who looked most likely to me, yet he was barely used.

I didn't mind Lyon bowling a lot of overs, but I'd love to see him try a more attacking line to the left handers. Only rarely has he been pitching it on the stumps. His whole plan involves throwing it up outside off and and looking for an edge to slip. And also, he should ALWAYS have a leg slip to Peterson and Amla - both those guys shuffle across and play to leg no matter where the fielders are.

Great start by Aussies this morning - 3 quicks wickets. Makes me question again why the quicks weren't trying to bowl reverse swing last night. Siddle's had the ball moving a bit this morning - and his pace is up, good rhythm from Pete. And someone FINALLY bowled one short at Smith. That stops him walking across to that wide of off line, it makes him reach a little bit more for those wide ones and what do you know? he nicked one :)

Steyn batting at #7 instead of Kallis...Aussies will be loving that. If they go through SA quickly here the follow on might be an option. If they pass 300 and make Aussies take the 2nd new ball, I probably wouldn't bother. Have a rest, bat again and make SA bat last.
