South African Tour of the West Indies, May-June 2010

Can someone please explain to me who this BJ Bess bloke is and why he is representing the WI in test match cricket... he averages nearly 50 with the ball in FC cricket and isn't experienced at all!

Can someone please explain to me who this BJ Bess bloke is and why he is representing the WI in test match cricket... he averages nearly 50 with the ball in FC cricket and isn't experienced at all!

He is a young pace bowler from Guyana. He is in the team because Nelon Pascal who was in the lineup for this test collapsed during warm ups with a neck injury and since the West Indies had no other backup they had to call Bess to come because he was in Barbados in a camp for young players and he was the only good option.

I have to agree with Dare, you do need a spinner, and for the reasons he said. Edwards has a test average pushing 40, Roach's decent average is completely reliant on his figures against bangladesh (against australia it was 51, against SA it's now over 100), Taylors' is 35 which is sub par.

I mean these are not even good bowlers (roach has potential, taylor has yet to deliver on his and time is running out, edwards is flat out over-rated), let alone brilliant ones that can tear threw teams. You could never, ever, ever, ever go into to a match without a spinner with a pace line up like that.

But they would all benefit if they were to play at the same time. Correct?
When you look at the good pace bowlers around the world they started their careers with someone to else carrying the load which allowed the youngsters to learn.
Steyn had Pollock and Ntini, Morkel had Steyn and Ntini. Broad had Anderson and Harmison, Finn now has Broad and Anderson. Who does Roach have? He doesn't have anyone, he has to carry this attack on his own. If he had Edwards and Taylor or just one of the two it would take allot of pressure of him.

they might Dare, but it always just seems to always be speculation and wild optimism with the windies these days. I've seen them look promising for about 5 years now and nothing ever comes of it. I really thought after they beat south africa in that test 3 years ago (I think) that was going to be a turning point.

they always have captaincy headaches, bowler headaches, middle order batsman problems. I fear when chanderpaul loses form for the last time then the lows will only get lower.

I would be delighted to be proven wrong but I'm not holding my breath. The WICB is a shambles, the only thing they are good for is making the teams record look slightly less dismal by preparing shockingly lifeless wickets for draws.

Controversy: Steyn spat on the ground to the right of Benn' . Controversial scenes here. It could balloon into something ugly. Benn got close to Steyn and was seen laughing. Tauntingly. Or so it appears. That seemed to angry Steyn and he spat to the right of Benn.At the ground. Not on Benn but I can't believe he spat in the first place. Oh what a mess. Benn is enraged, takes a step or two towards Steyn who walks away. The umpires get into act and talk to Benn. Oh dear what has Steyn done here. The provocation seems to be the fact that Benn laughed. Perhaps there is something more in the history between the two, perhaps this was a reaction to the past battles between Benn and South African players. Whatever be the catalyst, it seems to have got to Steyn. Match referee has to surely get into this. He will look at the provocation and the reaction. It will be interesting to see what he will decide.

Surely, Steyn can't get away with this. Unless of course, the judge decides the provocation was very strong. It's going to be a very interesting hearing later on. And what about Benn: Will he take stock of the situation after this and mellow down a bit? In his brief career so far, he seems to have already got into a few controversies.

Benn in trouble again but if laughing is provocation enough for spitting then there are some serious issues here.
I expect Benn to get banned for 3 matches or so and Steyn to get of with a warning.

75/6 everybody folding around Chanderpaul. Pathetic really.
Ramdin fails once again but that really doesn't matter because he will keep his spot.
Making Botha look like Murali:facepalm

What a sorry sight to see. Once again Chanderpaul is the only one to show any sort of fight. Expect South Africa to romp to a big win tomorrow.

At least the "A" team is on a bit of a winning streak in England. Only bad thing is that Chadwick Walton isn't doing anything with the bat which is a good thing for Ramdin and not for the West Indies.

Finally this series has ended. Poor performances all around for the most part. Chanderpaul once again did everything he could but nobody had the guts to stay in the middle and help him out, Benn had a good series with 15 wickets and Nash did okay.
Tense final match with Roach having a go at Kallis and the Benn vs Steyn controversy.

With all this time in between this series and the tour of Sri Lanka there is allot of time for players to get healthy and for some to practice and improve.
Gayle needs to think about his captaincy and if he wants to keep doing it because it is not working out.

Kallis vs Roach > Paraguay-Japan match :p

Damn, facing a fired up Roach with the new ball and that too from round the wicket can be quite scary for a batsman.

He did let them have it in those 4.4 overs that he bowled, a bit to late but I'm glad they stood up to them. Just because South Africa are better it doesn't mean they have to take ████ from them.

Disgraceful from Roach. Pretty lame performance again from WI, it just be so frustrating for guys like Shiv, he just stands up time and time again with no support. Opening batsmen are a problem, for all of Gayle's talent he is a serious underachiever, his shot selection is very average indeed, but everyone seems to forget that when he plays some crazy 100 off 70 balls knock, then fails as usual in the next 10 tests. I wonder if its worth even sticking with him at all in the team? I mean, its not like his pathetic attitude and body language is going to magically translate to victories.
