There has been some Breaking News and Drama just 10 minutes before the teams exchanged the team sheets Dale Steyn for South Africa broke down and severely injured his right ankle on the way to the outfield, there fore South Africa replace with Andre Nel. The extent of the injury is not known and dale has been taking for x ray in hospital. Well this is a big blow for South Africa Dales pace would have troubled the Bangladeshi?s. Well let?s go to pitch now for the start of play
Your commentators for the first half hour are:
Michael Holding Ian Bothan 3rd Man = Nasser Hussain
Holding = Thank you David, well that was a shocker from Dale Steyn we will keep you updated with his injury as the day progresses
Botham = the other thing as well Mikey is that he may of fractured his ankle ligaments and could miss the whole series now that would be a big blow where the likes of Pakistan , Sri Lanka and some areas in India would have catered for his pace, swing and reverse swing
Holding- yes that is true but I think South Africa still have good Bowling package regarding with there seamers, bowlers like Ntini and Nel can bowl in the late 80mph range which should still hurry the batsman on this series. I am just worried about South Africa?s lack of spin that will be a big factor for them in this series
Botham- yes I agree Mikey the likes of India the pitches all caters for spinners. South Africa may struggle their as other international teams such as England and Australia have struggled in the past.
Hussain- One thing I would like to point out here is also in places like India South Africa will really struggle with the heat and the humidity the must not let that take over them
Start of play
Holding-ok here we are for Pollock?s first delivery. His accuracy will to be important for this tournament as bowlers usually get smacked around in the sub continent
And Javed Omar Belim pushes Pollock?s first ball on the onside for a single
Here comes the 2nd ball and its an Edge but it doesn?t carry, good accurate stuff there from Pollock
Botham- well I don?t know why the slip fielders are so far back with someone like Pollock?s pace they should be at least 2-3 foot further in
Holding- Agree with you there beefy. Here comes the 3rd ball and its cut away for 4!!!. The first boundary for Bangladesh and it goes to Shariyar Nafees. Well Pollock gave him a pit of with there and the ball was cut away for 4.
Botham= yes excellent shot for Bangladesh they need to put away the bad balls from south Africa and make a reasonable score here
Holding- here comes the 4th ball and it goes past the outside edge the South Africans are appealing not out says Simon Taufel.
Botham- well we need to take a look at Snicko here as I did here a noise that could have been bat and pad
Well Snicko has not registered any impact but revolutions of the ball did change once the ball went past the batsman. Ball could have hit the arm guard.
Holding - here comes Pollock 5th ball it goes past the outside the edge and little edge the South Africans are jumping for Joy but wait Taufel says NO. Well that sounded like an Edge to me we will need confirmation with Snicko here
NOT OUT!!!!!!!
Botham- Yes Mikey to me that ball took the under edge of the bat, and confirmed by snicko an impact as the ball goes past the under edge of the bat. Bad Decision from Taufel there. Pollock was elated he thought he had his man well he did have his man but the umpire ruled it out
Holding- yes beefy but we have to give the umpire the benefit of the doubt as there is a massive atmosphere coming from the Bangladesh supporter?s umpire may not of herd it. Pollock running up to bowl his last ball of the over and straight to Boucher?s gloves. Good leave
Holding- welcome back Bangladesh are starting to get on top of South Africa, catches for South Africa have gone down, edges have fallen short and Bangladesh scoring freely
Kemp puts down a sitter
Javed Belim edges but fall short of slips
Belim hits a stylish 4
Botham- yes Mikey South Africans are getting frustrated now. Bangladesh have done nothing wrong good effort by them
Bangladesh 20/0 After 4 Overs
Here?s Nasser Hussian with the 3rd Man View
I thought you would be interested in the way bowlers position the cricket ball in the bowling hand. Here an Example of Ntini
Up Right Seam
Here Ntini has got the ball in the up right position before he releases it, he is hoping that the ball will either Nip in or Jag Out after the seam hits the pitch. This is a effective delivery as batsman do not see the seam movement either late. The ball that Nips in can trap a batman lbw or take out his stumps.
In Swing
Here Ntini has the seam facing toward the batsman. This will make the ball swing into the batsman. This is also an effective delivery as it can catch batsman on their pads or bowl them
Out Swing
Here Ntini has the seam facing towards the slips. This will make the ball swing away from the batsman and if the batsman misjudges the swing he can get a fine edge to either wicket keeper or the slips
Well now you have seen how bowlers hold the cricket ball in bowling hand. Now I will explain the bounce in sub continent pitches and bounce on South African pitches
Here is hawk eyes version of Ntini?s bowling
The red ball is the ball he bowled today against Javed Omar Belim. As you can see after the ball pitches there is not much bounce the ball stays quite low and loses pace and the batsman can play it ease. This ball reached the batsman at 65mph after it left Nitni?s hand at 87mph and bounced at 77mph
The blue ball is Ntini?s ball earlier this year against New Zealand at Cape Town in South Africa. The ball pitches on near enough the same spot as it has today with Ntini?s red ball but the blue ball bounces more and is more pacy, it will surprise the batsman. This ball left Nitni?s hand at 88mph bounce at 80mph and reached the batsman at 73 mph which is quick.
In the sub continent pitches are mainly dry and dead so short bowling will just sit up and asked to be hit. where as in south Africa the pitch has moisture to it and its rock hard which will enable the ball to bounce and give the batsman a nasty surprise. The key for the South Africans is they must pitch the ball up and pitching it short in Asia will just give away runs.
