Spot Fixing Scandal Thread: The Legend Continues

"You'll find there's only a few players who are genuine and who are actually here for the love of the game, and there's not many believe me. A lot of them are just looking for money, women and food,
" Majeed has been quoted as saying in the video tapes of the sting released by 'The News of the World'.

That source looks less credible than The News of the World. And usually albeit not on this occasion The News of the World is full of rubbish.

I think the problem with this sort of thing is that it leads to a lot of sensationalist views from the wider public. Let's be honest here, nothing has been proven yet, even if the evidence with those no balls looks dodgy as hell. But other stuff is a bit over the top, for example someone mentioning Bob Woolmer, lets be sensible here before everyone jumps over the edge and blames that one wicket loss in 2004 to match fixing or something equally crazy.

If this proves to be true, it will be the end of Pakistan Cricket. I am specifically concerned about career of Muhammad Aamer. He has the potential of being a legend of the game. If he has been lured into the trap by bookies, it will be very sad and early end to a potentially legendary career. Kamran Akmal I am sure is involved. I have said many time on this forum that his performance in sydney test was way too suspicious. I am very shocked right now. This news broke out when we were preparing to fast here. I could not sleep after that. We are a country in turmoil. Such behavior by our sportsmen is going to make it even worse for us. If found guilty, none of the players should be spared.

look this is how pakistan fix the lords match !!!!!!!

the life bans should be through ICC and not PCB, so that it sticks. And something has to be done to look into the bookmaking scene as well. Though it is easier to have 11 clean players than going after a gazillion bookmakers....

It has to be a worldwide operation, because from Majeed's saying the syndicate(s) are in India. In the News on the World's articles I've read he've been making phone calls to India.

Of course in the upcoming days more will be revealed.

Don't understand why this wasn't done by the police last night. 24 hours to delete what you want.
Team management make it sound like this is a schoolboy tour.

He has been arrested. This isn't just a newspaper making things up. This has been an in-depth undercover operation by the paper; all the footage of Majid was secretly filmed.

Well from what i have listen and read Majid is arrested today while green track suit person were arrested yesterday night.
I am not saying that Pakistan players are as innocent as a milk feeding child but may be NOTW are trying to get publicity by creating a drama.

I was one of the biggest fan of Asif since his debut but each time I like his bowling, he entangle himself to other stuff and Aamir to me was the best talent of 21st century. I was so happy that our bowling is something that we can cheer about but now........:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm:mad:

There was a video of the person in a Pakistani tracksuit in question being taken away by the police. This isn't just the NOTW making wild accusations. They seem to have serious proof and the police are involved.

I agree with you mate. However, when something on this scale happens, other instances are always going to be brought up. It's what the media and people such as us on these forums like to do. Speculate, provide wild theories and so on.

The current case is something different. I don`t think something like this would`ve had people buying a story had it been any other side. With the Pakistan team, people almost instantly have drawn a conclusion that its true , mainly because the Pakistan cricket team has`nt covered itself in glory with their past record. They`ve repeatedly been handed bans for very serious allegations, be it fixing, ball tampering, ball biting, pitch dancing, doping and what not and ahve repeatedly got away with this. Hence, the public sentiment this time around where the cricketing fraternity does not want them to get away with this lightly as they`ve done in the past.

Let us spare a thought for Pakistani fans who are die-hard followers of the game, just like any other naation in the subcontinent. To be cheated like this is`nt what they deserve. They come out in huge numbers, be it any part of the world. I almost had tears in my eyes when I read a comment from a guy in a flood relief refugee camp on cricinfo, during the Oval test. What would to explain to fans like those, that they`ve been cheated by his team and that they`ve been wasting time in folowing the side and attaching emotions to their performances!

I don't want to go out and say they have definitely done everything they've been accused of but the evidence from my point of view in relation to the no balls is most definitely compelling.
