Spot Fixing Scandal Thread: The Legend Continues

WTF. He is friends with Imran Khan . This is bullcrap. The bastard is just saying this to impress mahmood.

Yeah, just looking over RDJ's notes from yesterday. Rampant namedropping: Perveez Musharraf, Mike Gatting, Geoff Boycott, Phil Tufnell, Brad Pitt, Roger Federer.

I'd be surprised if any England players from before 2001/02 turn up. No way were we good enough to fix anything. Although with the talent they possessed, maybe someone should start checking Mr Ramprakash and Mr Hick's names for off-shore bank accounts in the Cayman islands.

I'm sure he's only naming players to help fight the corruption.

Oh wait, hang on a sec...

Oh come on.... Ponting involve in match fixing???? loads of crap,

lol, he is also saying this with Imran khan??? JUST LOL Mazhar Majeed

While it is a lot of name-dropping, I hope the ICC doesn't just ignore these claims. If anything, this should make people realize even more how far-spread this thing is.

Totally agree with everything JB has said.

Right, and we understand that but it just leads to massive inconsistencies in the system. What if tomorrow an 18 year old, well educated South African (or any other nationality) kid from a wealthy family in the capital of the nation is caught in the same situation as Amir. He can't make those same excuses because they aren't valid and so he gets banned for 5 years or life, while Amir gets banned for 5 years or as some are advocating, 2?

that is why there is a jury. There is no black and white form of punishment on this. Every case is different and has to be taken differently. If tomorrow an 18 year old from a wealthy family, with a well educated background is caught, his ban should be more strict. Why? Because he had the luxury and understanding of how to make correct decisions. He was brought up that way. But in case, if its someone who was born in a broken family with an alcoholic, abusing father then that case should be handled with leniency. Why? Because the kid didn't even get a proper chance at life, and is prone to make incorrect decisions.

And if you look at the background of Aamir, Geoff Lawson has been quoted that sometimes Aamir was not able to join the team on time, because Taliban had sometimes put up road blocks. None of his siblings and him got a proper chance of studies cause his parents were poor. Their village recently got electricity. So you see sir, not everything is black or white.

The worrying part is the way that he seems to almost imply that by roping in various celebrity endorsements for what seems a legitimate tournament, it means no one really considers that the entire tournament itself is nothing more than a money making exercise in every section bar the fans seats. Knock up a quick ODI series where everyone plays each other silly amounts of times, then stick a couple of fixed games somewhere in the midde. Easy money, everyone gets blinded by thinking wow, what a flamboyant tri-series etc...

I really hope his talk in those regards was merely bluster, because it's scary stuff indeed how many people will have been unwitting porns. Difficult to spot individual moments of fixing within an already fixed tournament. Crazy talk.

Yeah, the claims should be probed (though he'll be ripped to shreds by the prosecution and he'll be shown to have no credibility (not that he has any anyway)).

Don't see how completely unsubstantiated claims made by someone in the dock by a crook should make people realise how far spread it is. Yeah probe them, but forget a pinch of salt, you need a whole ship of it.

Perhaps the crap evidence from the headline-grabbing source will succeed, where all the credible - but less 'newsworthy' - evidence has so far failed...;)

I think this is a tactic by Majeed and Butt. Majeed name drops, makes outlandish claims, goes over the top, and Butt's lawyers attack his creditability.

Regardless of this piffle about Majeed, the fact still remains that they had marked money and did bowl the no balls. One of them by a mile.

And Amir pleaded guilty... I think it's fair to say, that part of the case is pretty much shut. As more and more of this leaks out (well, whatever it is that's leaking) I can see why Butt did not plead guilty! If even half of what Majeed has claimed is remotely true, then I see nothing less than a massive jail sentence for fraud, or the case collapsing at some point due to more than half of it being true and far too many people in 'high' places not wanting to be implicated. After all, it's been over a year since the initial findings, no doubt most of the trails have been wiped clean and hands washed. By the time it all gets resolved, Amir will probably be bowling again ha

"He also alleged that many Pakistan players wanted Mr Butt to replace Shahid Afridi as captain of their Twenty20 and one-day sides, and were happy to throw matches deliberately to achieve this."

Afridi may be many things, but he was never a loser, not even for money. Certainly hints at why his times as captain were so often filled with turmoil. Again, speculation, but if the shoe fits, marry her...

"I have the football club, and I move a lot of it through. The only reason I bought a football club is to move cash."

I always thought, and this is obviously nothing more than speculation either, that Abrahmovich used Chelsea to make tons of his cash disappear.
