Spot Fixing Scandal Thread: The Legend Continues

He is released but the real problem for him is the five years ban but as per Law you can't really be punished twice for the same crime?

Sports have rules and regulations, not laws, so he's not being punished twice by the law. Every sportsman has to face both whether they commit a crime on or off the field.

Yeah guess so. At least he has got age on his side. But going by our history, I think we would have unearthed other quick bowlers of the same caliber. He may find it very hard to get back into Pakistani side after serving the five year ban.

Yeah, it's a shame for him, but Pakistan have recovered very well already, so I wouldn't be worried.

And okay, so he's being punished by criminal law and cricket law, two different things :p

Indeed, very interesting. Disappointing there seems to be a lack of evidence for the police to prosecute him.

Mervyn Westfield jailed for 4 months for taking a payment of ?6,000 for an over in a match back in 2009. Pleaded guilty.

Danish Kaneria
Kamran Akmal
Imran Farhat
Wahab Riaz

Danish Kaneria named as the corrupting influence in the spot-fixing trial of Mervyn Westfield.

Well knock me down with a feather - I'd never have guessed :lol

Does anyone else think the idea of a "PCB Integrity Commitee" is like a Khmer Rouge war crimes tribunal?

To be fair the PCB Integrity Committee are the reason he's not played for Pakistan since 2010. He's not cleared for selection.

Is there a list of all recent people caught?

I mean after the 3 Pakistanis were caught.

I think the real issue is unregulated gambling in the SC. People are going to gamble no matter what, might as well tax it and monitor the companies.

Correct me if I am wrong but majority of these players are wooed over by SC gambling syndicates. You never hear of a player being bribed by an executive at Bet365.

I really wish we had betting the way you guys have it in England. The only legal place for me to place a sports bet is in Las Vegas.

Really? Is sports betting different from poker, etc? Not something I'm particularly interested in, but it's very easily available, both online and in betting shops.

Completely agreed on the making tax out of it as well, prohibition on the "vices" is proven to not work and only creates crime (not that you'd rid of it with it all legal).

Not sure anyone else has been caught barring Westfield since the Pakistani trio.

As far as I know, poker can only be gambled on in Vegas and Atlantic city in the US.. and maybe Indian casinos? The US government screwed online poker for not only their citizens, but the rest of the world by freezing a number of poker rooms. I can't access my account or funds and couldn't give a ???? what US laws are. Basically, they're a bunch of ??????s when it comes to gambling.
