Sri Lanka in England 2011

Exactly and England are searching for wickets so reviewing the decision even if they had some doubts in their mind would have been worth it.

Herath has done really well here, he is getting a bit carried away at the moment but he has done his job as the night watchmen.

Much better fight from Sri Lanka, I think we bowled really well last night, bit flatter today, but really the difference has been Sri Lanka bothering to actually turn up with the bat, the pitch is still a good Day 3 wicket to bat on. We gave ourselves a chance, we're still in a better position for the result than Sri Lanka, but weather will probably force a draw. But the SL tail is long, so you never know.

Impressed with Broad last night, best he's bowled in a long time. Aggressive, but on a good length, could have had 2 or 3 wickets. Not fussed if this goes to a draw, so much time lost, it's basically a 3-day game.

I still don't know if Broad has done enough for India series, I suppose how he plays in ODIs has some bearing on it, although the wrong format, his ODI form over the same period as his Test form woes has been pretty poor too. Still, that's a long way off and we don't know what'll happen with the likes of Bresnan, Onions and Shahzad in ODIs/county cricket.

I have been quite disappointed with sri lanka overall. maybe the fact that their bowling never really got on top of england at any point drained the fight from the batsmen but I expected more from them.

tbh the 1-0 scoreline is only justified because in 2007 england escaped with a 1-0 defeat that was similarly one sided. apart from that there's no other way to say sri lanka deserve to go home only losing by one match.

Sangakarra is pure class. It's not often I enjoy watching a batsman's innings, but I really loved this one. Well deserved ton :clap

The series itself has been a dissappointment. Much of it due to rain, but apart from the last session in Cardiff, there hasn't been much (results wise) to separate the two teams.

Unfortunate, I suppose, that the series was basically decided in those two hours, but it's a worthwhile lesson.

damn rain has taken victory away from England, as much as their own lack of aggression. Top innings by Sanga answering all his critics in one fell swoop. Good on you mate :clap

They were probably a full day's play away from a result, if we're honest. There was a lot of faffing about, but maybe not quite that much.

Not sure what you are trying to say here sir, but it seems in some way you are trying to discredit England's series victory here?. I hope i have read you incorrectly..

no, I was saying sri lanka deserved to lose by more, probably 2-0. I was just noting that ironically england were similarly out played 4 years ago but went home only losing 1-0.

Oh ok, well yea i would have to agree with that comparison from the 2007 tour to Sri Lanka.

England's lacking was in bowling as much as aggression, that and captaincy. England probably conceded 30-50 more in the 1st innings than they should have due to ill-disciplined bowling, 2nd innings Strauss decided to give them 54 runs by bowling KP and Trott, although you might argue that is because Strauss went in with only three seamers and Swann's 1/57 reflects that judgement (not terrible, but what if it had been a seamer instead?)

Still, England didn't need to win other than to chase their pipedream of being the best in the world and maybe this is why they aren't and won't be.

The batsmen all helped themselves in the series with 40 averages - except Strauss. I read he's going to play for Somerset against the Indians to try and find some form. Tremlett and Swann had fine series, the rest of the bowling attack combined wasn't so impressive though

Tremlett & Swann : 27 wkts @ 23.48 (SR 48.74, ER 2.89)
Broad, Finn & Anderson : 19 wkts @ 38.53 (SR 76.11, ER 3.04)

Interesting how pressure created by Broad didn't cause any wickets, maybe because it's a myth like any other time England struggle to take wickets. 1/51 in both innings, 1st off 19.2 overs and 2nd off 18.0 overs. That takes Broad to 17 bowls since he last took more than two wickets in an innings, 17 wkts @ 44.59 (SR 92.00, ER 2.91)

England news: Patel and Kieswetter earn England recalls | Cricket News | England v Sri Lanka 2011 | ESPN Cricinfo

Twenty20 squad Stuart Broad (capt), Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter, Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann, Chris Woakes, Luke Wright

One-day squad Alastair Cook (capt), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann, Jonanathan Trott, Chris Woakes

Two of my favourite English players make their comeback. No place for Prior and Collingwood. Bit surprised to see Finn in the one-day squads. Wright is only in the T20 squad (yay) and also no Shahzad or Bresnan (injury I think).

Samit Patel is awesome, good to see him back in the squad

I'm thinking this line-up for the first ODI (don't care about hit and giggle 20/20 cricket)

Cook *
Kieswetter +
Trott
KP
Bell
Morgan
Patel
Broad
Swann
Woakes
Anderson
