Steam update for DBC17 released

Again and I know this sounds a bit backwards. But you bowling well is not what's causing the bat pad issue.
Hard batting, Hardest bowling (modified to release window 0, foot window 0, spin difficulty 86) with bowling hud active and on Legend.

Not sure about pitch to be honest.

The problem is, and it's backwards really. I have said it before but making bowling harder isn't the trick.

The smash into ankle and caught in ring is shots being played to not perfectly perfect executed balls.

Ideally you actually want to be hitting the perfect delivery every time. I never Bowl on anything higher than hard.

I'd put good money on you getting a lot of early/late jump and release, and weak spin input and what's happening is the AI tries to smash bad balls and gets out.

We can argue whether that's what should happen but I guarantee hard bowling and everything default this doesn't happen.[DOUBLEPOST=1495384583][/DOUBLEPOST]

This.

Anyone facing the batpad issue and reporting, absolutely has to stream the game along with contextual info like nature of pitch, etc for it to be resolved.

I for example am not facing the issue at all, like most others. So it must be really hard for BigAnt to reproduce the issue.

@wasteyouryouth I believe you have a very decent rig, so you should totally try streaming.

I get what you're saying but playing on Hard because it makes the AI bat better makes me think I might as well just remove the silly mid on.

This.

I can see how it's happening with spinners because that doesn't always get ideal spin, in fact it's closer to once in a blue moon. The rest of the time it's probably 60-40 good spin - weak spin and 80-20 perfect/good release - late release.

With pace on those settings I'm no longer getting 90% perfect/perfect but very rarely anything below good/good (if you know what I mean).

I will give it a go on Hard bowling when I'm done with this match. I'll stream it too, if anyone wants to watch. @AnkitC

Sure. That'll be great. Because there's no point in blatantly saying you're doing it right or wrong when we could all watch what's going on. Especially the devs. Because it's a potentially game breaking bug.

Also please enable the Save feature so that we could watch it later too and not just live. :thumbs

Will do.

It's not that playing on hard makes the AI bat better it's that your currently not good enough for the artificial difficulty you've forced on yourself and are getting an anomalous result.

The AI should be able to put away bad bowling no doubt rather than have this result but the fact is bowl on a normal difficulty and the problem vanishes.

This means there's something wrong. Surely the point of difficulty levels is that you get hammered if you are playing at a higher difficulty than you should be, and the AI should make you pay for it and not get bundled trying to hit poor deliveries.

That does make sense to me. Like I said I'll give it a whirl. Although maybe I'm too good for the artificial difficulty. ;)

I agree with this too. People get out to bad balls all the time but more often than not will punish poor bowling.

Moving on to something else. The starting confidence is a very nice addition. However, I think second innings confidence is a small issue. I'm guessing it just gets carried over, which is fine unless you have a player who does really well and they are almost penalised because there is an upper limit. Example from the game I'm playing: Latham got 130 (282) and started on 95-100 confidence. Broom got 19 (38) and within three balls of batting with him in the 2nd innings he was at the same level of confidence as Latham.

I'm 328 for 8 off 70 overs and didn't start playing anything other than normal shots until I was 250. Partly this is a 200 run lead so I'm less cautious but I'm sure the higher confidence must mean you can get started quicker. Fine if it's Latham but maybe not for players who have not really done much in the first innings.

yes that's correct. couldn't agree more.

but the bottom line is people have paid somewhere in the region of £50 on a game and want some fun: they can either play on an appropriate difficulty and have fun or play on too high a difficulty, get a crap result and bleat about it...

i'm not having a go at @wasteyouryouth i'm just pointing out how he can avoid that result, and why nothing like it has been coming up in the beta.

I know. As much as anything it's interesting to see how little changes do impact the game. I'd changed some of the physics in the past but generally now I'm just leaving them alone. I'm happy to try it on all defaults but I do think either the option to modify should be removed or there be a fair warning from Big Ant about the impact. Otherwise they will get people saying the game is broken. Not that I am for a minute.

i think i played one game where i turned up pace turn just to see the effects, and was getting some huge cutters... other than that i've always played default physics and difficulties and i've never felt it necessary to do anything else...

Took most of my Sunday but I got a new video of an ODI I'm playing as England. A preview of the match vs South Africa in Leeds next week I suppose:

Very poor effort by them on a good batting track. Got bogged down in the middle overs and then lost wickets trying to pick up the rate, with nobody going on to make a big score. I'll back myself to chase this easily, though it could be awhile as this new style of video takes a long time to create. :p

Genius video work there. Keep them coming.
