Team of the Ashes (thus far...)

Overall conditions favoured the batsmen a lot and there was rarely good pace in the surface. When conditions did suit, the ball still needed to lose a bit of shine to make the wickets really fall. However, there were also issues with the bowlers, several who found their stride late in the series and a couple who in spite of decent form, couldn't convince selectors to pick them for all five games.

I did the stats team based on most runs and wickets. If you do it average wise it comes up as

Strauss
Watson
Ponting
Clarke (if picking based on batting at 4 Hussey)
Trott
North
Haddin
Broad
Hauritz
Hilfenhaus
Siddle

I'd pick it on most runs and wickets, ideally by batting position. Mainly because Trott had a blinding match, but that constitutes only one match not five which makes a series. Captain has to be the winning captain

Strauss (c) - 474 runs @ 52.67
Katich - 341 runs @ 42.63
Poncing - 385 runs @ 48.13
Hussey - 276 runs @ 34.50
Clarke - 448 runs @ 64.00
North - 367 runs @ 52.43 & 4 wkts @ 51.00
Haddin (wk) - 278 runs @ 46.33 & 15/0 ct/st
Broad - 234 runs @ 29.25 & 18 wkts @ 30.22
Johnson - 105 runs @ 17.50 & 20 wkts @ 32.55
Siddle - 91 runs @ 18.20 & 20 wkts @ 20.80
Hilfenhaus - 40 runs @ 20.00 & 22 wkts @ 27.45

No spin, I could include Swann or Hauritz as 12th man

Swann - 249 runs @ 35.57 & 14 wkts @ 40.50
Hauritz - 45 runs @ 22.50 & 10 wkts @ 32.10
