Fred's lucky to be in there, but just for that spell at Lords, and his 70odd at Edgbaston iirc he gets in. He deserves to be in just for being Fred. Jimmy's lucky to be in there as well, but he did bowl very well early series. Siddle could have got in ahead of him, but he was as hit and miss as Jimmy, and his figures were massively inflated by taking out the lower middle order and tail at Headingley after Clark had done the damage.

I think It's fairly obvious.

Strauss *
Cook
Bell
Collingwood
Trott
Prior +
Flintoff
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Onions...

They won right? Would put Ponting and Hilfenhaus in , But would kinda ruin the symentry?

How about a team of fail?

Hughes
????
Bopara
Hussey
????
????
Manou
Johnson
????
????
Panesar

Bit harsh on Manou possibly.

Team of fail? Add Freddie in there. Oh and KP as well.

I don't see how you can have Hussey, who got more runs than any England batsman other than Strauss, or Johnson, the equal second highest wicket taker. Oh well. Where's Cook, Harmison, Clark, Bell?

Stats based team of the Ashes

Strauss
Katich
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
North
Haddin
Broad/Swann
Johnson
Siddle
Hilfenhaus

My version
Strauss
Watson
Ponting
Trott
Clarke
North
Haddin
Broad
Swann (Only cause Hauritz didn't play the final test)
Siddle (Anderson for Lords)
Hilfenhaus

Watson had a series average of 48, so perhaps he should be in your stats team too.

I did the stats team based on most runs and wickets. If you do it average wise it comes up as

Strauss
Watson
Ponting
Clarke (if picking based on batting at 4 Hussey)
Trott
North
Haddin
Broad
Hauritz
Hilfenhaus
Siddle

Strange how in the whole series only one bowler had an average of under 30.

I think there was no consistent outstanding bowler, they all had their moments and were crap the rest of the time. Apart from Hilfy, who was consistently decent.
