Tendulkar Retires from ODIs

I have been posting about him confusing the selectors as well but, I agree with Sifter that he should go out on his own merits after all these years. But, I also do hope it happens soon.

Own merit is all fine. I think Sachin has achieved everything a cricketer could dream of- most runs, highest individual score, most centuries, most ducks too, Champions Trophy, Test No.1 and a World Cup.There is nothing else to conquer other than say probably a triple ton in Test matches.

The time is ripe to build a side for the future and Sachin should not be a part of it. unless he wants to play another World Cup and extend the record book by beating Gooch and Miandad.

Exactly he never scored a triple century like the Bradmans/Laras/Sehwags, he never won a series in AUS/SA/ENG and above all he failed as a captain and was never a team player.

Check out India's tour of England in 2007. There is a surprise for you.

Forgot about this series, but thats all you got!

No matter what, you seem to wipe off all the dust off your face and bounce back on as if you had not fallen. I like that spirit in you. If not winning particular matches where microscopic eyes are trained on him waiting for him to fail so that he can be ridiculed, he need not F*****G be a team player. He should not even care about those morons (like you )

Lara scored a quadrapule. But he never was a better player than Tendulkar. He himself accepts it. Ponting says Sachin is the best he has ever played against. Everyime he goes to countries like Australia, England, etc, he is accorded superhuman status with roaring applause and standing ovation. In recent times more than Indians, non-Indians have been applauding and appreciating him. Bowlers worldwide prize his wicket, EVEN F****NG NOW! You get 'The Sachin Tendulkar' and you make your mark as a bowler in international cricket. More than 60% of his tons have contributed to India's wins. In the 90's, he was literally the ONLY BONE of Indian cricket. It can be easily argued that his popularity feeded cricket's popularity (he made cricket even more popular in India, which then became the financial superpower of cricket and today cricket has grown leaps as far as market is concerned).

Probably Bradman might have achieved such euphoria or not if he was today, but he is NOT HERE TODAY. Sachin is the one guy who has gotten such euphoria world over, and it will take quite sometime before someone else gets accorded such status.

^^ Yet he failed in the just concluded series against the English, the series which has made your team limped, possibly a Rahane or Tiwary may have done better which in turn would have augur well for the same team you claim to support, Sachin was good but he isnt now hasnt been a batsman for the last two years, its high time he goes!

Can not agree more, and he doesn't have the temperament he had in the earlier years. I hope he retires and doesn't do a Dravid.

The Indian Cricket Team facebook fanpage has said that Sachin has announced his retirement from ODIs. Not reported yet on Cricinfo or anything else. Anything on TV?

It's all over Indian news channels, facebook and now on cricinfo too.

The retirement from the ODIs was coming, but shocking considering it's been done right before the Pakistan series...

TBH, the media would hype up the retirement any day. Whether it came before Pak, during Pak or after Pak, it would still have been shocking for a lot.

It seems a lot of people were shedding tears in the Delhi metro today cause Tendulkar retired. And that is seriously stupid.

Time for change in thread title. I think Sachin has done more than enough for Indian Cricket. I don't think he missed anything which felt unaccomplished.
