Tendulkar Retires from ODIs

TBH, the media would hype up the retirement any day. Whether it came before Pak, during Pak or after Pak, it would still have been shocking for a lot.

It seems a lot of people were shedding tears in the Delhi metro today cause Tendulkar retired. And that is seriously stupid.

I felt like it too (now the tear hasn't come out probably because I know Sachin is staying back in whites for sometime)! And I don't care if people think its stupid (nothing against you, Sahil). I am highly unashamed of being emotional, and I respect people who are emotional. Indians are pre-dominantly emotional people, and when someone like Tendulkar goes, you will see the surge of emotions running high. Just watch what's going to happen when he calls it a day from test cricket too. So many people have so many different and varied memories of enjoying Sachin's batting. He is a demi-god not only in Indian cricket, but in world cricket too (even opposition treats him like that).

Not gonna be negative and say that he could have retired after the world cup or anything like that. I appreciate what he has done for Indian cricket, even though his exit hasn't been as smooth as he would have liked. Having said that, what exactly is a smooth exit? Tendulkar wanted to play for his country with the same passion, with which he started. This shows the character of the man and above all this, Tendulkar gains my respect for having retired at the time he has.

We have got 2 solid years to prepare a good WC team and I guess 2 years are sufficient to build up a team because we already have a pretty good team built up. With some good bowlers in the side, we can really do well in the next WC but I'm getting out of the topic. I'm happy that we'd still be able to see the great man playing in test cricket. :)

Great man a great asset for India, hope someone replaces him

Respect the man but he should have retired from ODIs after the World Cup. Best time for him to retire. Not as if India cant replace him in the ODIs.

In my humble opinion he is the best batsman to ever played in the ODI format, certainly is the complete batsman in ODI.

I am privilidged to have live throughout his playing career, witnessing him live on may ocassions with the straight bat carting oppposing bowlers all over the field, destroying any attack put up against him.

Thank you Sachin for the memories we now hold or so dearly.

#emotionalspeechfromtheheart.

I understand your emotions very well Sai. One must also remember that in the end Sachin too is human and is a sportsperson. True that we all live in a computer world these days, but at the end of it -one definitely has to go.

The point in highlighting the fact that people shed tears in Delhi was to elaborate that a sportsperson is bound to go one fine day. No matter what we do, what happens.

I know drawing comparisons to events happening in India may seem highly irrational. But, must we and must the media let us forget the horrific incident which happened in New Delhi last week ? IMO, that was far more important than SRT's retirement, which needn't have hogged the limelight.

The opposition bowlers at-last have a sigh of relief. No more destruction at the top. Right time for him to leave. Would have been great if he has gone out high with a century. The Indian team has a legacy to carry forward. Great to be living watch him play for years. :)

There won't be any replacement of player of such class.A great cricketer and an inspiration for billions.

Sachin Tendulkar was easily the greatest batsman in ODI history. Most of his records and achievements like 463 ODIs, 18426 ODI runs, 49 ODI centuries, 96 fifties etc are likely to stay intact forever unless another Bradman/Tendulkar-like player suddenly emerges and breaks all of them :p. What a great contributor he's been all these years for Indian cricket and helped them improve by leaps and bounds in ODIs. He made the right decision by retiring from ODIs as he's aged 39 and was most likely never going to play the 2015 Cricket World Cup so it was important for him to step aside so that India could build up a strong team for the future. Nonetheless, his memories will always stay and I will miss watching him play for India in blue wearing that shirt number 10.

Sachin Tendulkar (ODIs), Rahul Dravid, Brett Lee, Ricky Ponting, VVS Laxman, Mark Boucher, Jacob Oram, Andrew Strauss along with many other consistent domestic cricketers have gone this year. The apocalypse for those of us who've been watching them play all these years :p.

But Sahil - its human tendency. They show their feelings for people for whom they have strong feelings. With Sachin, many Indians have lived with him and have sort of enjoyed watching him so much over the years that they have a strong connect for him. That brings out their emotions. Even though that Delhi ---- is a horrific incident that must kindle the emotions, the connect with that victim for the Indian people is non-existent. People don't know that girl as much as they know Sachin. You know what I am saying. If a known actress was the victim, probably the Indian public would have reacted the way you want them to.

We just go by connect with the person. Its human nature, we can't change it. We still feel for people who go through such tragedies, but still the emotions will always be different.

For the last 2-ish years, he has been on and off form. He lost touch too many times. And agreed he is a legend, but he did his bit for India, making them win some of the best chases in the 90's.

Words cant describe Sachin's contribution to ODI cricket. He has been the most sensational player to have featured in this form of cricket. I wish him luck in tests and hope he knows the right to say goodbye to test cricket as well.

Tendulkar must have some thought before deciding this. I think it's sensible decision he has taken to retire ONLY from ODI's. It must be because our ODI team is strong enough now that we don't need Tendulkar now. He has done what he wanted when he first came in Team. He wanted to Indian team to be in position when they don't need him anymore and that's exactly what he did. He probably is only playing in Tests for same reason. He will take retirement only when he thinks Indian team doesn't need him anymore in Tests. There is no one currently who can replace him in Tests. Don't blame his batting form for now till all other Indian batsman are actually playing well. India Test team aren't in position where they can continue without him. They need someone to bring motivation and spirit in them. I really appreciate the responsible he has taken for India for 23 years. I want him to go on high note.

I reject to think any other reason that he is being selfish, considering his character we know for many years..
