Tendulkar Retires from ODIs

Was thinking aloud should Sachin stay on for the AUS series, since the team is such in a bad state, nah he should go since he has been the worst batsman of the year.

One thing is sure and that is he wont get any better.
There is no way he would survive this phase.

Australia series serves as the perfect ending for him. Post that, we have the ICC Champions Trophy. If Tendulkar stays on, one would definitely perceive him as a selfish person-Keeping 2015 in mind [not that we will defend it], the team needs to move forward. I'd be quite surprised if he does not announce retirement.

I also see it coming at end of this series. Australia will be his last series or so as it seems.

Now if he does well in the AUS series, wont we want him to go on for the SA tour?

Even his fans want him to call it a day now. Sachin should be good enough to realize that now.

Anyone else anxiously awaiting a possible retirement speech from Tendulkar?

I think it's just you :D I'd love to see him go out after a GOOD series, but I guess I'm worried that may not be upcoming :( He's always done well vs Aus though, so that might be his last stand - the series where he spends his last reserves of concentration and application.

TBH, I am waiting for a retirement speech from Tendulkar. It is high time given his failures over the past year. He clearly is blocking the way of youngsters like Rahane.

I don't think he is going to retire any time soon . He should not .The rot is much deeper and it starts at the top . Dhoni has completely failed as Test skipper . It is not as if good player's are not available , it is just that they are not chosen .
Sachin is not part of Indian T-20 squad . After 2007 WC win, what has been India's performance in T-20 ? What is the reason for India's consistent failure. India's winning percentage against Aus,Eng,Pak,NZ,SL,WI is less than 50%. They get enough T-20 practice in IPL , Dhoni gets the team he wants , yet in last three editions of T-20 WC India has failed completely .

About Sachin - He just cannot stop playing ODI's . He should be playing both ODI's and Tests . It is a ridiculous approach . If he really thinks that he can just come in and start scoring runs in tests then he is not thinking right . He dug himself into a big hole when he stopped playing ODI's . Playing your natural game is not an experiment you perform in one innings and stop it immediately on failure . After first innings he went into an overly defensive mode(I am taking nothing away from English bowlers , they were good) and persisted with it throughout the series . Ridiculous . He should get some lonnng innings under his belt where he will score some runs fluently, possibly in Ranji or in ODI's, preferably ODI's .

Dhoni should be replaced as skipper for tests . Things will sort themselves out. This is not a bad team . It is an OK team . It can be a much better team .

When you have batters like Sharma(for tests, not ODI) , Tiwari , Rahane sitting on sidelines and players like Raina and Murali playing 17 and 10 tests ahead of them you know that something is wrong . Decision to include Yuvi ahead of Rahane was amusing . Who do you include in the test team - a 24 year old fit guy in good form who is consistently scoring runs or a 31 year old cancer defeating hero who has played 40 test matches and is yet to make his mark in test cricket ? Even Tiwary would have been OK .

A bunch of players will have to be removed from the vicinity of Indian team, asked to perform consistently over atleast half Ranji season before Sachin's retirement can be mentioned . If he decides to call it a day , then fine but I hope he doesn't.

And where is the coach of Indian team ? What is he doing ?

You've gained my respect with this post. Shows how Indians who actually live in India like yourself view Sachin's predicament in the team. Nothing far from what you posted he is blocking the way of the youngsters like Rahane!
