Tendulkar Retires from ODIs

^^Hmmm ROFL! I doubt he is planning to retire, waiting for the selectors to drop him. Who is bigger Tendulkar or TEAM?

I know that it should be more about results than excitement, but honestly, I might be in small company here but, I asked myself, do I actually get excited when I get to see Sachin bat now? Not really. But it's thrilling to watch Pujara and Kohli bat, Yadav bowl, and before he went completely off the rails, Ishant Sharma too. Don't get me wrong, I respect everything he has done and I will be sad when he retires. However, a part of me just wants to see new players in place of Sehwag, Sachin and Zaheer. I wouldn't mind much if we lost. That'd be part of the journey.

I hope the announcement comes soon so that he does not tarnish his legacy anymore. I honestly do not think he can be consistent at this age. Sure he'll score the odd fifty and people will proclaim he's silenced his critics, but at this stage, I just feel those fifties will be too few and far between.

This.

I agree. Want him to go out with his head held high. Hope he gets to good form now in the last three innings of this series, and then maybe announces the big one.

Shravi is right. It will be sad for the whole cricket fraternity to see Sachin go but his legacy is much more valuable. Sachin should make way for a youngster now.

YES, YES, YES. This is it. My opinion completely.

Just on that pic of Sachin and the moneybags...apparently he's gradually losing his big advertising contracts. Same thing happened with Ricky Ponting too - he had one summer where he seemed to be on half the TV ads, from there he's gradually been seen less and less. A sign of the end when you can't attract the same level of sponsorship.

Ponting has been a lot of Swisse ads over the last couple of years.

True, but that's the only ones he does anymore. He used to do Valvoline, Rexona and others...

This story was from 2008 - the high point of Ricky's money making. He got the hair redone as well around that time, an obvious push to up his marketability.

But...just to get back on track. Tendulkar made just 5 in the 2nd innings last night. What do you think he's aiming for now? He's got the 100 100s, the World Cup win. Revenge against England might have been one motivator, but that is slipping away...

There's a confusion right now with Tendulkar as far as what his role in Team India right now is concerned. With the other test 'so-called young' players also failing in this series, you could argue that Tendulkar should continue for some more time. Wasim and Waqar have been arguing that Tendulkar should stay for a year more. And his innings of 76 this test showed he can still score runs. But having seen Tendulkar dominate international cricket with such authority and have seen him handle attacks with aplomb, his true fans and admirers want him to go out with his head held high (including me) and that means he should go ASAP which should be after the upcoming Nagpur test.

Tendulkar was always expected to last the longest of the Fab Four (Dravid, Sachin, Ganguly and Laxman). With Dravid and Laxman retiring at the same time, probably his presence is needed. But again, his reputation needs to be intact. ITS CONFUSING.... Frankly right now, I haven't felt that Tendulkar has reached the lowest of lows. He is at his worst ever low, but still there has often been that 'good shot' and that 'positive flow' which re-assures that the low is just temporary.
