Test Cricket tweak

Yeah but I dont think that the test files have been tested much and given feedback.

OK I'm going to test the files now. B) Just want to know whether the ODI patch has the same files as the test patch so I can have both on in case the files are different.

Thanks
Auwais

The ODI files are different from Test ones. You run the appropriate exe (eg ODI batting.exe for batting in ODI or Test Bowling.exe for bowling in Tests) and it installs the appropriate files by itself.

But can I have both installed like if I install the test one first and then the odi one will the odi over-write the test one?

Yes , it will overwrite Auwais , but you need not worry .Whenever you want to play Test match run the Test file otherwise run ODi file

Ravi , I played a match against Australia on dusty pitch in overcast conditions as India (batted first)
I scored 242 runs for 8 wickets.There were sufficient edges .
Now when my bowling came , in the 2nd over by Zaheer AUS lost 2 wicket (1 bowled and 1 LBW ) (not on yorkers).till the end of 6 overs AUS were 29/5 with Zaheer taking 4 wickets and Srinath 1.Hayden was still not out.the other 3 wickets were lbw, caught at slip and bowled.
I introduced the spinners (kumble and harbhajan) and I am able to get a few wickets by them as well. The score now is AUS 172/8 in 24 overs with Hayden on 90*.2 of the wickets were run out.
Now lets see will I be able to win against AUS first time(with the new files) :D

Well , I lost that match by just 1 wkt.

Anyway , I was up with another one against NZ(VB series) on hard pitch.I scored 297 runs for 9 wicket. The main attraction was Sachin and Sehwag smashing 95 runs(patnership) in the first 11 overs .The bowlers were BOND and Adams. Then Dravid , Ganguly and Yuvraj contribiuted to take the score to 297
Again , there were sufficient edges(Thank GOD).So the batting files looks good.

I see you are enjoying the game although you couldnt force a win against the Oz. If you can win some and lose some I would say there is absolutely no need to alter the patch anymore. Good luck with the bowling.

I am new to this forum and really glad to see some good patches being made by Ravi to improve the game and make it more interesting.

I have played both a test match series and a one day match and would like to give a feedback.

I installed the ODI patch and found some real improvements. I played a match against the Aussies and batted first. I posted 332/5 in 50 overs with Tendulkar, Dravid all posting scores above 70 and the others contributing quick runs (20s, 30s).

The initial Aussie reply was very strong scoring over 6/7 an over. They posted around 100 runs in the first 15 overs with only Hayden back for a duck.

But surprisingly after 15 overs the reply was not strong at all. D. Mongia (left arm slow) took 4 wickets in one over and the Aussies ultimately folded for 170 around the 25th over!

ODI HUMAN BATTING
*The real point here is scoring the runs. I found it tough to force the pace and the real improvements are the edges and the need to run singles, 2s to keep the scoring going...

*But as far as yorkers are concerned, to survive it is tough unless you cover all the stumps. Even a off and middle stance is useless and the ball squeezes through!

ODI CPU BATTING
*Initially the scoring rate is awesome with runs being smashed all over the park. Matches may be won during this time itself if the score to chase is around 200...!

*Runs can be curbed bowling a good line...which is good.

TEST MATCHES

The patch is very good overall. But the CPU plays a lot towards the fine leg ... even for balls pitched well outside the off stump! having a short & deep fine leg allays the problem somewhat.

You can easily get run outs with a short fine leg. A lot of CPU batsman got out playing shots towards fine leg! This issue may be addressed so that the CPU plays more diverse shots.

Hope the feedback helps...

Firstly, thanks for your feedback  . Hell yeah, it of course helps. Infact if we have had feedback from half of those who downloaded the patch <_< , the patch would have been perfect.

It is a bit odd for Oz to get bowled in under 25 overs unless this is just one off B) or you have not used the patch rightly. When you batted did you first run odi batting.exe and when it was your turn to bowl you made sure you ran odi bowling.exe file. These files should start Cricket 2002 for you and you will not seperately need to run Cricket 2002. Also one time installation doesnt help, each time you will need to run the ODI or Test batting/bowling exes to either bat or bowl. Please do not use the shortcuts to use the patch if that was the case. When batting in ODIs run odi batting.exe and once you are done batting run the odi bowling.exe(this has to be done every time you want to bat or bowl). I also think it takes a bit of practice to score 332 runs in 50 overs against the OZ. I am honestly not doubting your batting skills ;) but I think it might also be due to using the bowling patch to bat or vice versa. This has happened with others, just confirming it wasnt the same with you. I dont really want to confuse you more, but do let me know if you want me to elaborate on using the patch.

As for tests I agree with you it plays quite a bit behind square which can be fixed. What do you think about the CPU run rate, I thought it was quite realistic although I havent been able to complete a series with this patch yet.

As for yorkers, you will hardly get bowled if you defend those, I am sure others will vouch for me on this one. It is also possible to flick the ball if the batsman is well settled. I know it takes a bit to time the ball but it is very much possible.

Yes Ravi, I followed the procedure that you mentioned. I installed all the files in the c2k2 root directory. When I wanted to bat or bowl I replaced the shots directory etc. and ran odi_bowling.exe if i wanted to bowl or the appropriate bat.exe if i wanted to bat. No problems there.

But as you mentioned for the ODI, the Aussies folding may be a one off thing. Most of the catches went to either first slip or the gully. When mongia was on a hat-trick, the aussie batsman surprisingy left his crease for a big heave and was stumped! How d'ya like that!

I will play more ODIs and let you know more. Maybe I am destined to get pasted soon looking at your confidence in the patch :D .

Regarding the tests I played a full series (2 tests) with the Sri Lankans without autoplay.

*But still they folded with sub 200 scores each time between the 30-40 over mark. I played on a hard pitch and a dry pitch.

*The lower order's susceptibility is great. You can expect to knock'em off soon...which is a welcome treat.

*I must say the top order really plays well. The run rate is between 4-6 runs an over which is awesome. This is when having your default field settings.

*But as soon as I plug in the short fine leg and deep fine leg...it drops appreciably...to between 2-4 runs an over. This scenario helps in some wickets falling soon. I guess this is the reason for the sub 200 scores everytime.

*Rarely do you see runs being scored behind square on the Off side (like thick edges flying over slips...keeper)

*The other thing I guess which is missing in tests are the skyers! It helps to have the CPU skying a few shots to the field..'cause it plays shots too perfectly everytime.

*As for yorkers you are right, I simply had to defend most of'em. tried the flick shot but still haven't scored runs with it...though once an on-drive fetched me 4 runs...It is realistic enough and a much needed patch.

Will get back with more in some time...

hey ravi
sorry man
i was a bit busy with studies
i wanted to test the test cricket tweaks
plzz upload it here so that i can download
and give u feed back
and yeah ravi i downloaded ur odi bowling files
uploaded on 56 page
there is one error
when i come down the track the batsman moves towards the off side
i mean his face and body goes towards the off side
i think this might be due to any error in shots files

When I wanted to bat or bowl I replaced the shots directory etc. and ran odi_bowling.exe if i wanted to bowl or the appropriate bat.exe if i wanted to bat. No problems there.

You dont really need to replace anything if you are running the proper exes. The exes will reinstall all the files on its own and start cricket2002. Just thought I should let you know, will have a look at the issues you have mentioned above. Very detailed feedback indeed, thanks again.

Mani, no worries take your time and I will sort out the issue you have mentioned above.

I havent had a chance to test out these test files yet, i'll see if i get some time this arvo, and i'll tell ay what i think :)

Ravi , I played 2 one day matches against AUs and Nz.
Against NZ , I scored 297 and won by 110 runs with 4 runouts of NZ surprisingly.
But I played against AUS against a typical real life Australian team.I scored 262 and thought it was enough but the 1st wicket fell on 100 runs and that too tun out in the 11th over. The second wicket fell on 200 runs (caught).
Then I thought it would be pretty easy for Australia but they lost a total of 6 wickets before scoring 262.
SO a good combination . Gilchrist was not out on 143.

The ONE day files are perfect , I think .

I will test the test files now
