According to the rules laid down by Cricket Australia Smith won't be allowed to takeover the Captaincy until 2021. I think Tim Paine is a better Test Captain as well when compared to Smith.
Oh!! Sad to hear that. That's okay. U have to pay for the wrong things u did. Coming to Paine, the team hasn't succeeded well in his captaincy barring Sri Lanka Series. IMO, this is a good opportunity for him to prove his captaincy skills. Inclusion of Smith & Warner in the team gives a lot of confidence.

Think Paine has been getting a lot of backlash because it's a change for an Australian captain to be a "nice guy." I've always agreed with the play hard but play fair attitude. However, I think Paine deserves the chance. Lead us through an extremely dark phase along with JL. Of course it's going to be difficult.

Looks like Roy will be the opener for the Ashes as he's been called up for the Ireland match. Unless England are holding Jennings back.

Ah yes, the mighty Jennings has been held back and will finally be unleashed in full power during the Ashes where he will treat us to a feast of cricketing shots that hasn’t been seen since the Don himself played...

Sibley has been robbed! Should have been selected at the very least.

I remember when Strauss retired and left Cook to open, England couldn't find one decent opener to bat alongside him. Now that Cook has retired, no one has been knocking down doors to open the batting to my knowledge. Not too knowledgeable on the first class circuit in England though, but it'd be a pleasant surprise to see Roy open the batting next month.

Burns was very consistent but only got a chance last year. Dominic Sibley is the stand out opener this season. 3 centuries, 4 fifties at 62.66 and got a 70 for the Lions last week. You get the impression they made the decision on Roy some time ago, despite the fact he doesn't open at Surrey and played two first class matches last season. He looked clueless against the moving white ball in the WC Final too. :lol Hope he does well though.

Archer must be in the team.

I want to see Carey get a chance to play.. He has great temperament and has the game to play for long time.. Always excited for test matches.. Should be good one this time with England high on spirits winning/sharing the cup..

Haddin's XI 64/5 at Lunch with all wickets falling to swing and seam bowlers (Tremain, Bird and Neser). Good signs from a bowling perspective but not looking good from a batting perspective.

I do think the bowling alone will not win you matches in England as the pitches there would be flat and England have got good batsman down the order as well especially Sam Curran. Last time when India played they struggled with the bat even on entirely flat surfaces offered to them. Even when their bowling did well it all came down to lower order batsman putting up runs for the either side which India struggled to do and eventually lost the series 4-1.
